Summary

The Purchasing Specialist researches and evaluates prospective suppliers, procures supplies to meet production requirements, and maintains controls for material storage and handling and inventory accuracy. The Purchasing Specialist works closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service and external vendors and develops strong supplier relations to ensure sufficient supply of material while maintaining efficient cost control and inventory throughput.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.


  • Performs efficient sourcing and procuring of inventory material for shop operations by reviewing production requirements and executing required purchase orders.
  • Maintains sufficient inventory levels based on stocking requirements and monitors inventory throughput.
  • Develops strong vendor relationships and monitors supplier performance to identify and resolve any sourcing issues or concerns.
  • Maintains procurement quality by ensuring verification of incoming shipments, costs, delivery times and product quality.
  • Executes annual physical inventory in conjunction with Plant Manager and Controller.

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience in a purchasing or similar role
  • Proficiency with supply chain and inventory management systems and purchasing strategy
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient with standard desktop Microsoft applications including but not limited to, Outlook, Teams, Work and Excel

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to reason, make decisions and exercise independent judgment in various situations
  • Ability to solve problems through an analytical approach
  • Experience or use of DAX for inventory management functions
