TITLE: Project Specialist – Human Trafficking Prevention & Intervention Initiatives

Bilingual Required
Full Time Hours : 40 Hours Per Week, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Hourly Rate: $18.50 Bilingual incentive included in rate

Currently working remotely due to Covid, however employees will be expected to work at their assigned worksite in Ventura County as needed or when we are able to return to offices.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Human Trafficking Prevention & Intervention department (HTPI) helps prevent, educate, and address human trafficking of individuals by providing a education, outreach, and supportive services. This position is part of the HTPI department, a member of the Family Violence Initiatives Team, and reports to the Family Violence Initiatives Program Manager. The Project Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, and provision of specialized training, education, outreach and technical assistance to medical providers, law enforcement, community members, and other social service providers on human trafficking. This position will coordinate and provide support for training and outreach activities both internally and externally, as well as serve as a liaison to community partners.

GENERAL DUTIES:

1. Develop, coordinate and facilitate specialized trainings for identified projects on the topics of human trafficking. Projects will vary depending on emerging community needs.

2. Provide technical assistance to community partners that promote the continued knowledge and implementation of best practices when working with victims and survivors of human trafficking.

3. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community-based organizations, health care agencies, law enforcement and social service organizations and serve as a liaison between Interface and community partners.

4. Engage underserved and culturally diverse populations and facilitate presentations and discussions related to human trafficking.

5. Provide crisis counseling and culturally and linguistically appropriate assistance to potential victims identified through training sessions.

6. Support program manager in the development of prevention programming to leverage human trafficking, particularly labor trafficking awareness in the community.

7. Contribute to research-informed approaches to primary prevention, development and implementation of best practice and evidence-based training curricula and creativity for maintenance of social media and virtual education components.

8. Participate in training, workshop development, and implementation strategies that contribute to the integration of evidence-based practices as a part of all training and technical assistance efforts.

9. Maintain accessible and complete records regarding resources, key contacts, evaluation data and organized records of all meetings and events. Contribute to data collection and program evaluation efforts.

10. Assist with the coordination and facilitation of the 60-hour Domestic Violence Counselor and Human Trafficking Caseworker trainings and for outreach activities both internally and externally as needed.

11. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, in service training and agency activities as applicable.

12. Represent agency at assigned community meetings, taskforces, councils, work groups or outreach events as needed.

13. Support a positive working environment and work successfully as a member of a team.

14. Develop and maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries with clients, colleagues and partnering agencies.

15. Serve as a mandated reporter of child and elder abuse as required.

16. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in victimology, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, public policy or related field. Master’s Degree is preferred, but not required. An extensive knowledge of human rights, wage and hour laws, labor and employee rights, public administration, and the cycle of violence is required. This position requires a firm knowledge of reporting laws. A minimum of 2-years of experience with public speaking and ability to engage in a wide range of audiences is required. Must be able to prioritize tasks, organize thoughts and communicate well both verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to handle emergency/crisis situations, as well as strong skills in decision making, organization, leadership, and excellent time management skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or in a team setting and maintain flexibility. Requires flexibility with schedule as evening and weekend work may be required. Must have excellent technology skills, preferrable experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point etc.), Zoom, Canva, Printshop or other media design platforms. Must have completed or be available to complete the required 60-hour human trafficking and domestic violence trainings within 3 months of hire. Must maintain the confidentiality of all shelter locations as well as information pertaining to clients. Requires ability to collaborate with agency staff and community partners while demonstrating exemplary customer service.

Successful background and criminal clearance required and maintained, including but not limited to California Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Child Abuse Index and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Proof of a valid California Driver’s License, reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance (listed as covered), pass and maintain driving approval as required by our insurer.
