Construction Project Accountant (Plano,TX)

General Summary

This position works under minimal supervision and is responsible for the timely processing of project payments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows best practices and policies on project accounting activities.
  • Manages the project accounting for 100+ projects at a time.
  • Investigates project variances and submits variance reports to Project Managers.
  • Generates invoices to General Contractors on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and last business day, as well as on other days scheduled by contract.
  • Confers with clients regarding unpaid contract billings.
  • Provides weekly updates of the status of past due customer accounts and action plans to address issues.
  • Reports to management on any opportunities for additional billings.
  • Reports to management regarding the remaining funding available for projects.
  • Investigates all project expenses not billed to customers.
  • Responds to requests for more detail from customers.
  • Makes note of the write off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers and forwards the information to the Sr Project Accountant for resolution.
  • Compiles information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Responds to customer requests in a timely manner.
  • Participates in special projects, as directed or approved by the Sr Project Accountant.
  • Ensures that deadlines are met in accordance with closing dates set by management.
  • Willingly accepts change of task structure in order to benefit the company.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Provides guidance to Team Members when needed or directs them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key departments and Company affiliates to ensure cooperation and teamwork.
  • Demonstrates independent thinking and initiative on a consistent and regular basis.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment on significant matters including business decisions.
  • Attends all scheduled meetings, missing no more than 10% annually.
  • Follows all OSHA and other safety guidelines.
  • Follows other policies and procedures such that there are no verbal or written warnings during the evaluation period.

The duties described above are not inclusive. Additional duties may be permanently assigned or required from time to time due to the need to respond to customer needs and remain competitive in the marketplace.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma required, Higher Education a plus.
  • At least five years’ relevant experience in construction billing and accounting; proficient in the use of AIA billing documents is required
  • Familiar with Texas Lien Law processes, waivers, and bonds.
  • Some Accounts Payable a plus.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrates intermediate level skills using a personal computer and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Viewpoint software or ability to learn quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience with AIA and similar billing documents.
  • Fluently speak, read, and write English.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of construction industry subcontractor agreements.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates solid communication, customer service skills, and verbal/written skills with all levels of company personnel and outside vendors/suppliers.
  • Demonstrates high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and make quick decisions in the event of unforeseen situations.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Demonstrates solid communication, customer service skills, and verbal/written skills with all levels of company personnel and outside vendors/suppliers.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job which include, but are not limited to: walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, sitting, squatting, and occasionally lifting and carrying items which may weigh up to 15 pounds.
  • Position spends approximately 100% of time indoors sitting at a desk.
  • Vision and hearing must be within or correctable to within normal range.
  • Must be available for work 8am – 5pm Monday through Friday, with some varied hours as project deadlines require.
