OVERVIEW:

Sets up and takes down tooling and support equipment, oilers, interleaf, material handling reeling and de-reeling equipment, guides, reel hub spacers and any material detectors for tooling that is being set-up to run production. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Verifies all detectors are in proper working order for safety
  • Examines previously ran dies for wear and replacement of forms that may need to be sharpened or replaced before the next production run
  • Records die repair & maintenance activities
  • Assists in training operators and other toolmakers that need help understanding how to start a strip of new material in the tool
  • Suggests preventative maintenance, or altercation of tooling, to improve efficiency of the operation, life of tooling, or the quality of stampings produced
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate tooling
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as saws, lathes, hand polishing machines, milling machines and grinders to produce die components and other parts
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Verifies conformance of machined parts and die components to specifications
  • Confers with Tooling Manager and other personnel regarding tooling design.

  • Must be knowledgeable in machine setup and operating procedures
  • Ability to operate production and tool room equipment safely and efficiently
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the function and capabilities of the components of progressive tooling, including punch presses, sensor technology, and other production equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to train others
  • Ability to use all measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, joe blocks and indicators
  • Must have knowledge of SPC and quality assurance methods and procedures
  • Must be able to work well and communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to perform various problem solving techniques
  • Work well with minimal supervision
  • Dependable

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • State certified Apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of progressive tooling experience is preferred
  • Ability to provide clear communication and feedback
  • Ability to analyze, trouble shoot, and perform all die adjustments within production department
  • Ability to work out math equations such as trigonometry, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
