Summary

The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) is the home of the University of Michigan’s Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. MICHR is part of a national, collaborative consortium that is focused on bringing more treatments to all patients more quickly by advancing clinical and translational science (CTS). The field of CTS aims to build an evidence base of scientific and operational approaches that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of translational research across a range of diseases and conditions. MICHR has the unique charge of examining the translational research ecosystem at a systems level to determine where common pitfalls exist; developing novel solutions to these challenges; demonstrating their effectiveness; and disseminating improvements widely. MICHR is a dynamic organization that serves as a hub of innovation and experimentation to advance research in the science of translation and accelerate the realization of interventions that improve human health.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to act as the Program Manager for the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research’s (MICHR) Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Catalyst Implementation Science Network (ISN). The mission of the Michigan Implementation Science Network (ISN) is to connect researchers to promote more innovative and impactful implementation and quality improvement research, making the University of Michigan a destination for innovative, interdisciplinary implementation science and practice in communities and health systems.

Responsibilities*

Job Functions/Duties:

  • The central point of contact for the Implementation Science Network, including inquiries regarding D&I resources and trainings, and help link investigators with mentors as well as opportunities for D&I projects or methods support: the creation of a database of active D&I projects throughout the University, MICHR, and affiliated groups.
  • In partnership with the Faculty Director, plays a key role in planning and implementing an overall strategy to support mentoring, networking, and funding opportunities especially for early—career investigators and the greater U-M community in building capacity for dissemination and implementation of scientific research methods, working with the D&I Catalyst and where appropriate, across MICHR on the overall achievement of program deliverables to deploy D&I science within MICHR, U-M, and the greater Michigan community).
  • Serve as a liaison and central resource to Implementation Science Network investigators or potential study teams about the Implementation Science Network and opportunities related to the planning and conduct of D&I research, including early-career training grant opportunities.
  • Assist in the dissemination of the Implementation Science career toolkit across the MICHR community.
  • Help initiate D&I grant seed funding projects and identify D&I science laboratories across Michigan for projects.
  • Prepare, review, and submit reports and presentations as needed.
  • Represent the Implementation Science Network at local and regional meetings.
  • Plan and coordinate campus-wide networking meetings to enable early-career investigators to meet implementation scientist mentors.
  • Help plan and coordinate D&I research seminar series on D&I academic career topics.
  • Solicit agenda items for meetings, dispense agendas, and compose meeting minutes.
  • Help develop and update resources for the ISN, including a website and D&I toolkit.
  • Coordinate common activities across projects including common utilization and outcomes assessments (budget impact analysis), dissemination of training and implementation methods, information technology, and other resources.
  • Carry out additional tasks as needed.

The Program Manager is responsible for the development and ongoing management of the D&I Catalyst Implementation Science Network. Levels of authority and responsibility include:

  • Development of the program budget and staffing requirements, ensuring the program meets its stated objectives.
  • Analysis, comparison, and evaluation of various courses of action and the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from the immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.
  • Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Business, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Previous study coordinator/clinical/community-based research experience
  • Able to work independently and work collaboratively with diverse groups across the research workforce (e.g., patients, frontline providers, clinical managers, policymakers, community members, research, and administrative staff)
  • Experience coordinating research projects, including budgets and clinical or community-based interventions
  • Experience working with research administration
  • Experience presenting research results
  • Familiar with the University of Michigan’s Institutional Review Board
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Willingness to travel across campus and throughout Michigan as needed
  • Proficiency in research and project management-related software including Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), research management including reference management and file sharing software (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, Trello, Zotero), and communication and meeting management (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Slack).
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience and knowledge of implementation science
  • Mixed-methods skills including qualitative and quantitative research methods as well as data visualization and synthesis (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience in coordination of multi-site, community-based research studies and meetings including communication across different interest groups and audiences

Note: this position is hybrid, with occasional travel to Ann Arbor, MI required.
