Part-Time Instructional Lead

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country. Our comprehensive school-based programs combine activities and learning to help build the knowledge and skills children need to succeed, both in school and in life.

We are looking for Instructional Leads for the 2021-22 school year for our after-school programs in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a great personality, passionate about serving youth in an educational setting, with the ability to mentor elementary and middle school students. The Instructional Lead’s mission is to ensure that youth have a positive and fun after-school experience. Instructional Leads are crucial to a successful after-school program. Ideally, the Instructional Lead would have expertise in a subject area that they could lead a course in and engage youth in a meaningful experience. This is an in-person position for the upcoming school year. New hires must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and pass a DC Public Schools background clearance check. We are offering a $200 signing bonus once all elements of the clearance process are complete, as well as ongoing opportunities for performance-based bonuses throughout the year. We also offer workforce development opportunities that may cover costs of professional certifications, college courses, or other opportunities for longer-term career development.

The Instructional Lead will be assigned to one location for the duration of their contract.

Work Hours: This is a part time position with a schedule of two to five days a week from 2:30-6:00pm.

Compensation: $16-18/hour depending on experience

Responsibilities
The part-time Instructional Lead, under the direction of the Site Coordinator, is responsible for the daily implementation of the After-School All-Stars program model:

Youth Supervision:

  • Supervise students at all times
  • Arrive at work on-time and prepared
  • Follow the ASAS code of student conduct when disciplining students

Curriculum Development:

  • Create quality lesson plans to ensure student engagement, safe learning environments; and provide a structure designed to incorporate the end-of session culminating event
  • Propose and help planning one field trip per 8 week session (ASAS DC strongly encourages virtual field trips during the COVID-19 pandemic)
  • Attend professional development activities and weekly site meetings

Facilitation:

  • Collaborate with Site Coordinator and fellow Instructional leads to establish and maintain high quality program
  • Support student recruitment and promotion of the program
  • Create and maintain an inviting, safe and orderly environment including ensuring cleanliness of classrooms, auditorium, and other areas where the program is held
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, students and parents

Data Management:

  • Maintain accurate attendance data and reports
  • Submit required data on time and accurately

Experience and Education
The successful candidate will have a year or more of non-profit or related youth development program experience (including volunteer experience). The individual will have a familiarity with and passion for working with low-income youth.

  • Some undergraduate study is required; coursework in education, social or human services, child development, or related field is desirable
  • Individuals who have experience in the following areas: Math, English, Business, Music, Dance, Cooking,

Gardening, Art, and Technology/Computer Literacy are highly desirable

  • One or more years’ experience (paid or volunteer) working in an after school, day camp, or community youth outreach setting, primarily of the middle school age is preferred
  • Experience creating lesson plans or multi-week curriculum preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school district staff, program staff, parents, and community leaders
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency
  • Familiarity and experience with diverse populations and cultural competencies are strongly desired
  • Excellent organizational skills

Must clear DCPS administered FBI background check, which includes passing a TB examination and may require a drug/alcohol test.

This position is expected to be 100% in-person during the 2021-22 school year. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the pandemic and how it will affect school environments, it is necessary that After-
School All-Stars and all of its employees remain flexible and adaptable to the needs of our youth and to this constantly evolving situation. If offered a position of employment for the coming school year with After-School
All-Stars-DC, please understand that the position outlined above could significantly change over the course of the year. Changes might include, but not be limited to: offering programming in a completely virtual environment, sudden alterations to the programming schedule, shifting of learning objectives to meet the needs of youth in a pandemic setting.
