Serve as the Cub Scout Program Director for the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council overseeing council programs and events for Cub Scouts including family camp weekends, day camps, cub resident camps, bullseye bonanzas, and Cub-O-Rees. Be directly responsible for the delivery of the highest quality of programs for Scouting and Community groups. Network within the scouting and general community cultivating, recruiting, training and inspiring key volunteers. Develop and grow new initiatives to better serve our 6–11-year-old Cub Scouts and their families.

Position is responsible to the Director of Program. Frequent weekend program delivery is required for this position, especially during the summer camp season.

• Be directly responsible for council cub programming through the council area: offering quality programs, increasing attendance, and achieving net revenue. Specific events include: family camp weekends, day camps, cub resident camps, bullseye bonanzas, Cub-O-Rees, and new programs.
• Work closely with volunteers to improve and deliver the highest quality programs resulting in increased member retention.
• Recruit and provide leadership to the volunteers at events under your responsibility.
• Streamline event leader guides and other support materials including program offerings, promotional materials, and website information portraying accuracy and timeliness.
• Collaborate with the Marketing Director for media support (creative material, eNewsletter, online promotion, etc.).
• Contribute regularly to, and assist in monitoring, the Council Website and electronic communications (eNewsletter/Calendar/Social Media) for accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage the financials related to assigned responsibilities to ensure all areas meet or exceed their budgeted expectations.
• Working with the Director of Program and volunteers, evaluate and acquire program equipment and materials needed to provide safe and quality programs.
• Ensure all BSA NCAP standards are followed when providing unparalleled experience including trained staff, safe program equipment, and sufficient facilities for events.
• Be responsible for developing new events to welcome new scouting families and providing a taste of the scouting adventures to come.
• Serve as the Camp Director for Cub Resident Camp.
• Recruit, hire, and provide leadership to all personnel of the Cub Resident Camp seasonal staff.
• Work closely with the professional field team to engage current volunteers and prospect additional volunteers to expand the team who delivers quality program.
• Work closely with Program Manager to assure timely, accurate, and courteous communications, fee collections, and reservations with everyone attending events.
• Work closely with the development department community organizations to help secure project sale donations and event sponsors.
• Work closely with the deputy Scout Executive to identify and prioritize the infrastructure, maintenance, and program material needs at Camp Chesebrough.
• Carry out the Council’s strategic long-range plan in all areas that relate to this job assignment.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment) or equivalent work experience. Prior position as a commissioned professional of the BSA preferred. Background in outdoor recreation management preferred.

• Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
• Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
• Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scout of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
• Attained 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.
• A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
• Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference and motor vehicle background checks.
• Must be BSA National Camping School trained or willing to attend certification course within 6 months of hire date.
• Technology/software: Must be able to adapt to changing technology and methods. Intermediate knowledge of Windows and MS Office; Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills are needed. Capable to learn BSA systems: Tentaroo, Workbright, My.Scouting, IOI Pay, and Formsite.
• Work environment and expectations: Works independently under limited supervision by team leader. This position requires discretion and independent judgment. Makes recommendations and decisions regarding matters of significance. Must be able to prioritize work under deadlines, work under time constraints, and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to take initiative and play both leading and supporting roles. Must be able to manage projects from conception to implementation. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure. Position may have frequent interruptions and requires ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining a positive attitude. Must be detail-oriented and accurate.
