Job Title: Cream City Gardens Program Coordinator | Lead Gardener

Reports To: Director of Fund Development

FLSA Status: Part-time (Seasonal)


This position works under the supervision of the Director of Fund Development to lead all aspects of the Cream City Gardens (CCG). The primary activities include developing and implementing a strategic annual plan to ensure overall garden maintenance. This position will co-chair the CCG Committee and work closely with members of the development team to utilize the support of community volunteers. During the active growing season (mid-May through mid-September) 10-15 hours/week, on average, is anticipated. The schedule is worked out cooperatively in advance with the development team and in coordination with other agency partners. During the off season (mid-September through mid-May) the CCG Program Coordinator | Lead Gardener may be able to pick up additional, limited hours, in support of fundraising and development activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
:


  • Lead the development and implantation of the CCG strategic annual plan, including
drafting and delivering a summary report at the close of the garden season;
  • Ensure planting, watering, harvesting, composting, and overall garden maintenance
occurs in accordance with best practice, adjusting for weather;
  • Co-chair the Cream City Gardens Committee by scheduling and facilitating meetings as
well as taking notes and providing follow up tasks;
  • Schedule weekly walkthroughs with designated committee members, staff, and other key
stakeholders, during the active growing season;
  • Maintain and manage garden supplies and related storage areas; ensuring appropriate
tools are available and in good working condition;
  • Lead volunteers (individuals and groups) and/or prepare work plans to be completed
independently or with another staff member supporting;
  • Serve as the primary liaison to local and agency partners to help build a stronger
community of engagement;
  • Oversee the tracking and distribution of harvested produce (i.e., to Frieden’s, neighbors,
restaurant partners, etc.);
  • Support kitchen volunteers and shelter guests in determining the best use of fresh produce
for use in onsite meals;
  • Support program staff to engage shelter guests and community-based clients in gardening
activities as identified;
  • Prioritize open and timely communication with the development team.


Qualifications:


  • Experience or education in gardening or agriculture
  • Interest in working in human services environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use computer programs including Word and Excel
  • Flexibility in scheduling and ability to successfully manage schedule throughout the
growing season
  • Customer service is critical to perform all tasks successfully


Education:

  • High school diploma or GED
