Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., (AHP) is seeking a Program Associate in the state of California who wants to do more than just help programs run smoothly—this person has a desire to make a difference in the world and work on programs/projects that improve the health and welfare of people and communities. This person wants their experience and talents to be used on programs that serve high-risk populations, help people struggling with substance use disorders and recovery, improve behavioral health services and systems, assist people with criminal justice involvement better their lives, and benefit other projects based on social determinants of health and other public health issues. As a program associate, you will be an integral part of, and have a voice in, the programs/projects to which you are assigned. Your specific expertise will be fully utilized, and there is ample opportunity to learn new skills and expand your knowledge base.

Under the direction of senior staff, the program associate’s specific work may include:

  • Completing project deliverables
    • Carry out project tasks and assignments, following up as necessary
    • Develop written and online materials (e.g., templates, reports, presentation slides, guidebooks, planning documents, listserv announcements, online surveys)
    • Conduct in-depth research, key informant interviews, and literature reviews to support assignments in relation to training and technical assistance (TA) activities
    • Conduct quality-control activities
  • Overseeing meeting, training, and TA activities
  • Coordinate logistical details of events and meetings (scheduling, contacting speakers, etc.)
  • Plan meeting agenda and prepares supporting materials
  • Take minutes at internal meetings and prepares formal notes of external meetings
  • Prepare content of webinars (brainstorms topics, identifies speakers, writes learning objectives)
  • Provide technical support on a variety of platforms, such as GoToWebinar and Adobe Connect
  • Develops curriculum and training materials and manuals
  • Delivers online and onsite training and education (e.g., hosts webinars)
    • Develops pre-tests and satisfaction assessments to help determine the effectiveness of training sessions in relation to training and TA activities
  • Conduct administrative and logistical tasks
    • Manage workplan and deliverables
    • Coordinate multiple tasks, including aspects of the timeline, budget, workplan, and staffing
    • Input, compile, and summarize data in relation to training and TA activities
      • Respond to phone calls and emails
      • Help develop and maintain websites
  • Promote new business
    • Co-author proposals and external communication materials
    • Develop and maintain tracking systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates with the following knowledge and traits are encouraged to apply:

General

  • Understanding of social policy on health and human service topics, particularly in the state of California
  • Research
  • Budget planning, implementation, and oversight
  • Task management
  • Ability to quickly orient to new assignments

Technical

  • Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and virtual meeting platforms

Education and Training

Candidates for this position should possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in behavioral health, social work, public administration, or similar field. A master’s degree is strongly preferred. Professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

Professional Experience

We are seeking candidates with 3 years of experience in program management and behavioral health.

Salary Range: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

Base salary: $ 60,000 to $ 75,000 per year
