Summary:
Design Production Studio is looking for an eager new hire to be a part of the team! The main objective is to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and ensure high-quality output. If you feel like this aligns with your experience read below and apply!
This is a remote position that can be based in any of these states: CA, CT, FL, IA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OK, PA, TN, TX and VA
What you will do:

Being fast and accurate: Always striving to provide readers with what we know, when we know it. Be transparent about sources of information

Prepare articles, photos and designs for publication in print newspapers; proofing and typesetting newspaper pages for all newspapers; and editing and designing content to be shared across all newspapers, and occasionally working with reporters and editors

Edit and design newspaper pages with an eye toward accuracy and readability’ checking for grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy in high impact elements; proofreading others’ work; and writing headlines, captions and refers appearing in all newspapers

Designing pages and packages and modules using newsroom’s content management systems, Newscycle, and outside software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Intellitune and Illustrator

Employ creativity to present all information in easy-to-read, visually appealing, informative and energetic design and resource system to optimize production

Conceive, create, edit or produce various types of content. Depending on the department, this may include maps, timelines, documents and graphics

Edit photos: pulling photos from wires and other sources; cropping and toning photos for publication and meet production deadlines and maintaining ideal page flow under minimal to moderate supervision

Employ creativity and independent news judgment to text editing, designing, photo editing, and otherwise preparing work for publication and strive to meet specific individual goals to be assigned on a regular basis by supervisor
What you will bring:

Ability to foster excellent communication with peers, supervisor(s), department and newsroom, a solid grasp of the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation and the knowledge and acceptance of Tribune’s mission and strategy; an excellent command of verbal and written English

Ability to write and edit accurately, with clarity, without bias

Adherence to the codes of ethics

Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit

Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced deadline driven environment

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required and a minimum of one year editing and design experience at a news publication

Must be able and willing to work irregular hours, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary and must be familiar with computers and software
