Position Description

Reporting to the General Manager, oversees production operations relating to the assembly of vehicles in the Plattsburgh plant. In a role that is both strategic and tactical, the manager efficiently manages the human, financial and physical resources of the business unit by leading a team that supervises personnel, potentially over two shifts.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the areas of production in the safety, quality, productivity, delivery and continuous improvement goals for the plant
  • Provide leadership and support to ensure a safe working environment is maintained and foster a “safety first” attitude and atmosphere
  • Ensure ISO compliance among departments
  • Prevent any buses from entering or leaving operating unit that do not meet quality requirements
  • Develop a customer focused quality culture within the operations group
  • Implement lean manufacturing and 5S workplace improvements
  • Prepare and monitor the sector’s operating budget; Maintain cost goals for functional area
  • Implement a team based organization and provide coaching/mentoring on team based philosophies’
  • Maintain delivery commitments based on the production/delivery schedule
  • Plan, organize, lead and control daily production activity in order to reach production, delivery, quality and cost objectives.
  • Coach the team to maintain healthy work relations.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and rigor in action by applying the tenets of the Volvo Standards of Conduct.
  • Ensure company programs, policies and procedures are applied as regards production activity.
  • Ensure that the quality produced fully meets customer and company standards.
  • In collaboration with the manufacturing engineering and engineering departments, implement the methods and tools required to enhance productivity, quality and cost reduction.
  • Use available means to adapt the plant to build new products.
  • Provide management with all necessary information for the continued improvement of operations.
  • Lead and oversee the development of the team of direct reports.
  • Elicit and encourage the active participation and involvement of colleagues in improving processes.
  • Organize and actively participate in planning and work organization meetings.
  • Develop and maintain harmonious, effective relations with other company departments.
  • Ability to manage and foster people change management.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management or other relevant field preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar position

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company's growth. For this position, the base salary range is set at $89,300 - $129,255, and where applicable, bonus eligible. The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
