GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

  • Provide leadership to ensure HSSL’s fabrication and paint schedules are maintained to optimal capacity as defined by the MPS.
  • Oversight over the coordination, planning, and scheduling of projects to ensure a controlled process to fulfill customer demand consistent with the company’s objectives, policies, and goals.
  • Interface and collaborate with all impacted functional areas regarding project schedule issues, including Estimating, Sales, Project Management and Operations departments.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business/Engineering or at least 7-10 years of production scheduling/shop flow experience, including supervision responsibilities, preferably in steel fabrication.
  • Demonstrate excellent communications skills, including meeting organization & presentation.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of estimating systems using both finite and infinite scheduling techniques.
  • 3 yr. minimum previous supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of contracts, design, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency in using Primavera P6, AutoCAD, SAP, and Microsoft Office

LICENSE, CERTIFICATES, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

APICS Certification is preferred but not required.

DIMENSIONS:

This position impacts efficiencies, inventories, and profitability through the successful interface between customers and the company on non-project management issues and with Project Managers on their contracts regarding schedule requirements involving the annual sales volume of $150 - $200 million dollars for all 4 HSSL plants.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • The Mgr. of Production Control is appointed and accountable to the President. Daily interaction and collaboration with the SBU leadership team along with key interface to support operational personnel at all levels.
  • Direct reports include Master Scheduler, Expediters, Production Systems Planners, and CADD/Cam personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Fundamental job requirements which an individual must be able to perform to accomplish the basic duties of the job.
  • Oversight over establishing and maintaining communication channels between Estimating, Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Operations, and Yard as related to scheduling for all projects.
  • Oversight and engagement to ensure the optimal formalization, documentation compliance, and flow of all project communications to ensure timely distribution to all functional areas, including Sales, Estimating, Engineering, Purchasing, Fabrication, and Yard/Shipping/Field Operations. Additional distribution may be required as the need arises.
  • Oversight, development, implementation, and maintenance of customer data files with continual research for potential inclusion into HSSL’s Job Management Systems.
  • Weekly reviews with the Customer Demand Committee on any discrepancies for action plan development concerning any significant changes to the existing schedule. Including any proposed alternatives, ramifications, and needs for formal notification of subsequent change(s) to the customer to mitigate HSSL’s risk.
  • Oversight over the production of master schedule for all operational areas on a continual basis with a minimum weekly distribution.
  • Collaborate with VP Sales for the continuous pre-bid review on all pipeline projects to maximize production capacity and ensure fulfillment regarding customer requirements related to delivery schedules being committed to in our bid proposals.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Estimating on validating that HSSL’s estimating standards are current with operational processes through ongoing time study evaluation.
  • Collaborate with VP Project Management for the continuous post-bid review of all awarded projects to ensure the timely flow of information pertaining to schedule commitments on project-specific criteria/customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with VP Operations for the continuous pre-fab review on all projects to ensure projects are being scheduled and fabricated in the most optimal way. Monitor and validate projects are scheduled relative to how the project was initially estimated and/or the optimal use of best practices.
  • Ensure production control reporting is updated every week and report requests are managed expeditiously within established guidelines.
  • Monitors the collection of labor update data for project status is maintained for use by the High Steel Job Management Systems and scheduling system downloads.
  • Oversight in ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures regarding controls and accuracy of the information on all supporting systems.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of planning scheduling and control systems including procedural documentation.
  • Produce analysis and recommend appropriate actions regarding backlog status and resource utilization constraints.
  • Maintains good discipline, good personnel relations, high morale, and proper attitudes with his own personnel, shop personnel, inspection agencies, state inspectors, and state representatives.
  • Develops meaningful team goals which support HSSL’s strategic plan in collaboration with other functions. Ensures that goals are measured and achieved.
  • Develops individuals within the Production Control department to help them maximize their potential.
  • Identifies, participates in the preparation of alternative workaround plans and follows up on anticipated or required schedule changes so that the communication loop is maintained.
  • Advises the President on opportunities and problems identified from the communication process (externally and internally).
