Job description
You will support new item creation efforts through competitive benchmarking and researching product options. Responsibilities will include creating/maintaining technical documents, reviewing product designs for compliance with company and ASTM standards, and developing testing criteria for new product offerings. You will utilize tensile, torque, hardness and other testing equipment in a lab setting to perform product testing on new and existing tools.
You will identify and root-cause field quality issues to reduce warranty expenses and create improved designs utilizing SolidWorks CAD. You will interact with suppliers to identify process failures including production and Quality Assurance activities. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are required for interaction between field personnel and end user customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support new product development by evaluating new tools and completing the New Item Creation (NIC) process
    • Acquire specifications/drawings/testing/application data
    • Assist with the creation of equipment design, manufacturing and test specifications
  • Perform Product testing on new and existing tools
    • Internal lab testing
    • 3rd party external testing
    • Field testing
  • Product quality and warranty reduction
    • Track top warranty items for assigned commodities by number of defects and cost
    • Identify opportunities for improving tool performance, functionality and durability
    • Lead the root cause analysis of product failures and implement corrective actions
    • Perform bin audits to understand product failures
    • Present warranty reduction projects at quarterly management warranty review
  • Attend supplier review meetings and provide Engineering and Quality feedback to the scorecard
  • Perform data analysis for new and existing warranty agreements with suppliers
  • Respond to Customer Service requests for engineering and quality expertise through the Epost-it process
  • Author field communications for quality related concerns
  • B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably Mechanical
  • Experience in manufacturing quality
  • Experience in material testing and comparison to industry standards
  • Experience with SolidWorks 2D print creation and 3D modeling
  • Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA)

PREFERRED

  • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP)
  • SolidWorks simulation experience
  • Hands-on automotive experience with an excellent working knowledge of automotive tools
  • Experience with material testing equipment
  • Ability to interpret and understand ASTM standards
  • Experience with problem solving strategies (5 Whys)
  • 10% travel or less. May include one international trip per year
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (specifically Excel and Access)
  • Database / business intelligence system query writing and analysis
  • Current passport
