The Job You Will Perform:

  • The primary role for the Process Health Engineer (“Remote Process Engineer”) is to reduce manufacturing cost, and improve product quality across the enterprise by applying analytical tools, data science techniques, and process control principles. The Remote Process Engineer collaborates and builds strong working relationships with International Paper - Global Technology subject matter experts (SMEs).

  • The Process Health Engineer is an important member of the Remote Analytics Team – an integral part of the International Paper Global Manufacturing Technology group and Mill of the Future initiative. The Remote Analytics Team is a strategic, innovative, and cross-functional team that is focused on investigating mill specific and enterprise manufacturing data to improve the company’s cost-competiveness thru non-capital opportunities.

  • Another key role of the Process Health Engineer is to continuously improve the remote troubleshooting and process optimization capabilities of International Paper by evaluating, identifying, and then proliferating the use of new analytical tools and related emerging technologies.

  • An ideal candidate will have practical mathematical and statistical expertise, but also a natural curiosity and creative mindset (thinking out-of-the-box).

  • The successful candidate will work from International Paper’s Advanced Analytics Center (A2C), which is located in Atlanta’s Technology Square community. This position offers a flexible working arrangement provided that the home office is within a typical commuting distance to the A2C office. Relocation of the successful candidate will be covered by International Paper if the candidate currently resides outside of the Atlanta Metro area.

  • A primary role for the Process Health Engineer will be to perform process monitoring activities using tools developed by the Remote Analytics Team and work closely with mill operations and the process area SMEs to reduce process performance erosion. This role would expose the successful candidate to a wide range of process areas in the integrated pulp & paper facility.

  • The Process Health Engineer will collaborate with a variety of internal stakeholders including Manufacturing Excellence Managers and Leaders, Business Unit Managers, Area Process Managers and Technology Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand the context and the business need to maintain the quality of our products, improve the reliability of our plants, improve productivity, and lower production costs. The Process Health Engineer will communicate findings to stakeholders and assist with implementing improvements.

  • Continual learning on the technical and organizational aspects of the role are expected.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • The candidate must have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical).
  • The candidate must have at least 5-10 years of relevant work experience in the pulp & paper, industry.
  • The candidate must have a proven track record of building relationships and working with a wide range of personalities - demonstrating a mature customer service mentality.
  • The candidate must have proficiency with statistical analysis and manipulating manufacturing (time-series data). Experience with process centerlining and statistical process control concepts is a must.
  • The candidate must have working knowledge of AVEVA PI Data Archive including PI Asset Framework and PI Vision tools.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a passion for continual learning and acceptance of working within a highly innovative, less-structured, environment where self-directed research and prototyping may be required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate action oriented with strong problem solving and collaboration skills with experience working in a matrix environment
  • Organizational agility and interpersonal skills are essential to be successful as a Manufacturing Data Process Health Engineer.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision, perform in a team environment, as well as effectively communicate with others.
  • Willingness to travel to mill and corporate office locations. Travel should be less than twenty-five (25) percent of working day and may reduce over time after building key mill relationships.
