The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

The Water Services Department is seeking a Lead User Technology Specialist for the Process Control Division. The Process Control Division provides support for the Water Services Department's industrial control systems. The systems located at 4 water treatment, 2 wastewater treatment, 1 water reclamation, and over 200 remote sites.

The main responsibilities of this position are:

  • Overseeing the design, installation, asset management, and support of the infrastructure server domain through servers, SAN servers, desktop workstations, laptops, fiber optics, and media converters.
  • Providing high level support in a LAN, and WAN environment supporting operating systems, application packages, database management systems, utilities, and related software.
  • Supporting the Process Control domain through Active Directory, Group Policies, Domain DNS, system security patching, and implementing backup/recovery strategies.
  • Providing project leadership while working closely with consultants and vendors to coordinate and manage the infrastructure domain.

This work requires strong communication skills, an in-depth knowledge of the process control environment across all platforms, the ability to design, develop, test, and implement presented and approved solutions, a robust technical aptitude, and exceptional 24/7 customer support skills with the ability to present technical information in a business format.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge and experience of low and medium electrical voltage.
  • An in-depth knowledge of group policy and DNS.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment, with the capacity to set priorities, organize time, and identify resources for projects.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Exceptional 24/7 customer support skills.
  • Ability to do the following:
    • Troubleshoot server and workstation computer hardware and software systems evaluation techniques.
    • Assist in the design, documentation, fabrication, and addition to the server infrastructure domain.
    • Analyze and diagnose most commonly found problems in local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and radio communication systems.
    • Develop and maintain inventory of servers, workstations, and other related equipment.
    • Provide high level end-user support in areas such as domain logons, software applications, and security implementations.
    • Manage Microsoft Active Directory and Domain management, Group Policy, and other LAN Administration duties.
    • Install and maintain fibre channel and iSCSI SAN and NAS storage technologies.

SALARY


$70,969.60 - $107,910.40 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $107,910.40 depending upon qualifications.

Pension Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of professional level experience providing technical support for system infrastructure and/or software;
  • One year working in a large-scale environment and supervising highly technical staff;
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronics, telecommunications engineering, business administration, or similar field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with/in the following:
    • System state backups and disaster recovery, working with SANs and HP Nimble.
    • Creating, maintaining, and upgrading Windows Server domains
    • Virtualization technology including virtual data centers and desktops
    • System patch management, threat monitoring and remediation, and/or evaluating computer systems for security improvements.
    • Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation, maintains secure systems configuration guides, and conducts routine audits to validate compliance.
    • Working closely with vendors and contractors to ensure equipment and services procured and installed meet requirements and specifications.
    • Working with department representatives to develop cost effective solutions that meet operational requirements and advising department in technical hardware/software matters.
    • Database's using SQL, stored procedures, and functions.
    • Supporting web applications using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) or similar web server technologies.
