Parsons is seeking ambitious and talented Bridge Engineers to join the well-established bridge practice in our Chicago office. The award-winning Chicago bridge group is a lead office for complex and major bridge design within Parsons. In the past decade our engineers have grown their careers working on road, heavy rail, and high-speed rail bridges of all types, including girder, segmental, truss, arch and cable stayed. The Chicago office works on some of the most challenging and fast-paced bridge projects in the industry, in traditional and alternative delivery formats both regionally and nationally. Our client base includes both public entities (such as state departments of transportation) as well as private clients (such as major railroads and contractors), so Parsons’s engineers can experience everything from traditional road/highway projects, to railroad design, to the fast-paced world of design-build delivery. Responsibilities:

  • Function as Project Engineer or Project Manger
  • Leading and supervising design and/or advanced analysis for various structures including bridges, retaining walls, and culverts.
  • Performing advanced analysis on complex bridge projects including flared and curved framing.
  • Mentoring and nurturing early career professionals within the team
  • Experience with bridge inspection, assessment, and bridge condition reports.
  • Independently develop and supervise others in the creation of bridge designs and plans. Typical deliverables include calculations, drawings, technical reports, and estimates for procurement and construction.
  • Coordinate across disciplines such as geotechnical, roadway and drainage designers.
  • Provide input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters and Engineers
  • Perform complex structural analysis and design work efficiently and accurately. Provide technical oversight and quality checking of deliverables.
  • Supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance.
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement through innovation, creative thinking, and improved results.
  • Reviews and approves discipline staffing budget estimates and staffing assignment schedules on each project and maintains appropriate staffing level.
  • If assigned to a major program, manages all engineering and design efforts for program s structural discipline. Coordinates structural discipline staffing requirements for the program.
  • Monitors the quality and progress of the discipline on each project, ensuring that production requirements are satisfied. Works closely with Project Managers to resolve any existing or fore-casted problems related to discipline staffing, quality of work, schedule performance, or productivity.
  • Establishes standards and procedures manuals for the discipline. Recommends improvements to department procedures.
  • Helps recruit, interview, and evaluate prospective employees. Mentors, offers personnel development, conducts performance evaluations, and counsels employees, takes corrective actions (as required), and helps approve salary adjustments and terminations. Ensures that new employees receive orientation on company policies and procedures.
  • Reviews work produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed, and that quality is acceptable. Monitors productivity and technical proficiency of assigned technical personnel and makes reassignments as project needs develop. Provides training and development opportunities for assigned personnel.
  • Supports pre-contract and business development efforts as required, serving as technical consultant. Ensures client criteria and scope are met by all engineering disciplines. Expedites distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client and Project Manager. Strives to understand the client's business goals and formulates action plans to enhance the project work and delivery methods.
  • Prepares technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management. Acts as Project Manager's deputy for certain activities, such as attending meetings in his/her absence, etc. Obtains, analyzes, and circulates technical and contractual information to project disciplines. Reviews and approves change orders. Notifies project management and other affected personnel of all changes. Participates regularly in decision-making meetings with the client and project management.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering and 15+ years’ experience in bridge structure analysis and design.
  • Illinois Professional Engineering and Structural Engineer Professional Engineer licensure is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with various state, local agencies
  • Experience in steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete design.
  • Proficiency in bridge engineering software and Bentley CAD tools.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and planning skills
  • Working knowledge of various state Bridge Design Manuals
  • Experience working with Iowa DOT, or other Midwest DOT’s is a plus.

Salary Range:

$92,200.00 - $161,400.00
