The Principal Process Engineering role will be supporting the Rotors and Advanced Composite center with the primary responsibility to troubleshoot existing blade build and thick laminate processes and support the root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Below are essential responsibilities of a Manufacturing Engineer IV:

  • Direct customer facing experience either supporting production, industrialization of product or frontline leadership.
  • Able to effectively identify, report and resolve potential safety and quality hazards/risks.
  • Able to self-initiate tasks and courses of action to develop scope of work, resource estimates, progress metrics, and communication cadence for overall project management to meet mission critical objectives.
  • Able to coordinate cognizant design engineering and integrated operation teams to perform producibility analysis and manufacturing trade studies to determine cost effective solutions to complex manufacturing technical objectives.
  • Able to manage complex projects through a disciplined approach to initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing to achieve specific goals to specific success criteria.
  • Work and deliverables reviewed and checked through Project/Program management, Technical Fellows, and Functional management.
  • Mentors and shares manufacturing technology expertise with team mates and colleagues.
  • Knowledge and/or expertise in several manufacturing technologies to include, but not limited to the following:
    • o Aero-structure – Airframe design of metallic, non-metallic, machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and assembly manufacturing processes, equipment, tool integration, and product verification.
    • o Electrical and Mechanical Systems – design, integration and installation manufacturing processes, tool integration, equipment, and product verification.
    • o Tail, Main and Prop Rotor Blade Systems - design of metallic, non-metallic, machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and bonded assembly manufacturing processes, tool integration, equipment, and product verification.
    • o Manufacturing Execution Systems - process specifications, CAD/CAM; production planning, material requirements scheduling, and material kitting and handling.
    • o Gear and Transmission Drive Systems - metallic, non-metallic, machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and assembly manufacturing processes, tool application, equipment, and product verification.
    • o Tool and Equipment Integration – Facility requirements, ergonomics, safety, environmental, automation, robotics, metrology, tool & die fabrication, tool design methodology, determinant tooling & fixtures, loft practices, flat patterning, numerical controlled programing of equipment, tool cutting/addition technology applied to the fabrication and assembly of vertical lift systems.
    • o Knowledge of military and commercial aircraft systems.
    • o Able to apply engineering design and analysis knowledge to evaluate discrepancies and anomalies.
    • o Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • o Proficiency in MS Office tools of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Outlook

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or relevant/related disciplines with 10+ years in aerospace or related manufacturing industry experience
  • Experience with bonding processes, complex resin systems and thick composite laminates.
  • Working knowledge of autoclaves, presses, ovens, heat blankets, and other thermal process equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of cure cycles and adhesive rheology analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Rotor blade fabrication experience
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Machining Thick laminates/composites
