Compensation: $21.74 hourly

The Prevention Consultant is a position responsible for planning, developing, and implementing community-based substance abuse and other risky behavior prevention programming using the Strategic Prevention Department standards. Responsible for developing training plans for prevention and responsible for developing prevention department strategic plan that includes coalition development and tobacco merchant education plan to reduce and maintain underage substance use low in Missouri. In addition, Prevention Coordinator Lead will be responsible for assisting the Prevention Manager in development and production of prevention curriculum, as well as training Mental Health First Aid Coordinator members on materials. Other responsibilities include supervising Mental Health First Aid Coordinator in classroom presentations to elementary and/or middle school students and community members.

This position is 40 hours per week, primarily Monday-Friday. This is a remote position open to residents of Missouri.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepares reports for department, agency, coalition, and funders to report activities, funding opportunities.
  • Assists coalitions to pursue and apply for funding opportunities
  • Conducts trainings and educational workshops to community groups on community issues, the Strategic Prevention Framework, Risk and Protective Factors
  • Works primarily in community to network and establish prevention coalitions to address identified community issues; driving is an essential function of this position
  • Assist daily operations of prevention department through continuity of work efforts, works as a team member in the department and agency, and promotes positive working relationships
  • Assists agency to increase prevention department budget, staffing, and good standing in the community
  • Assist coalitions to make changes to strategic plan and programs, services, and activities to achieve desired issues
  • Assist coalitions to develop effective evaluation plan for process evaluation and program, services and activities evaluation to determine effectiveness of coalition efforts
  • Assist coalitions in the implementation of programs, services and activities through training, technical assistance, and timeline development for implementation
  • Assist coalitions in developing a coalition strategic plan to aid coalition in accomplishing its goals and objectives for prevention
  • Assist organizations, agencies, community coalitions and other groups to develop a comprehensive strategic plan that addresses the identified risk and protective factor through effective programming, services, and activities that are evidenced-based
  • Assist organizations, agencies, community coalitions, and other groups to conduct, analyze, and identify the risk and protective factors for firearm misuse and other risky behaviors
  • Assist communities to identify weaknesses and gaps in services, programs, and activities that promote substance abuse and risky behaviors from the community assessment
  • Regular attendance (except as excused)
  • Assist organizations, agencies, community coalitions, and other groups to identify capacity building
strategies; develop an effective capacity building plan
  • Assist organizations, agencies, community coalitions and other groups to develop and implement effective infrastructure to support their mission and vision statements and work efforts
  • Provide trainings to insurance companies who specialize in farm insurance on mental illness and suicide by firearm
  • Partner with the Department of Veteran Affairs – with targeted outreach and engagement to occur at local community offices throughout the agency’s forty-five county service region. Additional outreach will occur with local VFW’s and Vet Centers to strategize about appropriate ways to discuss mental illness and suicide by gun, and to discuss options for assistance (clinic locations, crisis numbers, the local VA, etc.
  • Partner with school districts that agency is currently providing therapy services at as well as other school districts in more rural locations of the service region that might not currently have a relationship with Compass Health. Our agency will look to infuse curriculum coursework and potentially a small presentation for middle schools who continue to teach the Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education courses about mental illness, suicide and other stressful events related to adolescence
  • Partner with the consultants hired by the foundation to help guide program development and the creation of communication that meets the needs of identified individuals while meeting the objectives of the initiative by reducing and eliminating firearm suicides
  • Work directly with established partners (specifically insurance companies that specialize in farm insurance and the local National Rifle Association office) in learning how to craft language, training, and programming to offer support to their constituents/customers while mitigating the risk of suicide and suicidal thought by early intervention techniques, trainings, and programs
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related field as recognized by the US Department of Education required

  • Experience working with Mental Health First Aid facilitators preferred
  • Experience networking and communicating with school personnel and community members preferred
  • A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required
