QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching.


SUPERVISOR:
Director of Teaching & Learning


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Overall coordination and administration of district preschool programs
  • Deliver a research-based, high-quality, early education curriculum to preschool students while meeting their individual needs through developmentally-appropriate practices and a strong home-school partnership


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a collaborative partnership with parents and family members on behalf of each child
  • Maintain on-going communication with participating child care families
  • Develop and / or maintain standardized procedures for the child care program
  • Manage and coordinate the pre-school education program, including curriculum
  • Maintain all necessary records for each child and staff member, ensuring that all licensing, health, nutrition and safety regulations are met in conjunction with Spitler Administration building.
  • Oversee the attendance of training programs for all new child care employees as well as in-service training for existing employees
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training, personnel, ensuring all meet the legal child care licensing requirements
  • Evaluate child care program staff
  • Recommend staffing levels and work schedules in the various child care job classifications as well as the purchase of capital equipment, materials, supplies and contracted services to effectively provide child care services
  • Prepare recommendations for and administer the child care operating budget
  • Work harmoniously with other program directors, principals, and administrators to meet the needs of the district and its students
  • Lead and participate in child care staff meetings and/or parent meetings
  • Purchase program supplies and related equipment
  • Process, approve and submit weekly timesheets to payroll
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching & Learning or Superintendent of Schools
  • Implement a team teaching model, include time dedicated for the teaching team to plan, implement curriculum in all learning environments, assess children, and support parent involvement through conferences, and parent meetings.
  • Utilize the selected comprehensive curriculum to guide decisions about teaching practices.
  • Observe and document student performance. Record relevant data to assess progress and inform instruction.
  • Work closely with program director, support sta?, teachers, volunteers, and students.
  • Participate in required training and on-going professional development.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

School year as defined in the written agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education and the Master Agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.
