PRIMARY FUNCTION: To perform duties as an instructional assistant as assigned by the teacher and principals spending a maximum portion of the day working with students to help them progress as determined by their individualized education plan.

PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule - 234 Day- Grade 4 - Salary Range: $26,034.00 to $42,918.00. Salary placement will be based on Douglas County Board of Education approved salary schedules and years of verified experience.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 234 Day (12 Month)

REPORTS TO: LEAP Supervisor

EDUCATION LEVEL: Education Level: GED – High School Diploma with a passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment. Or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credits.
Certification/Licensed Required: Georgia PSC Paraprofessional Certificate

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

PROFICIENT SKILLS: Ability to work with students in the Special Education classroom and areas of core academic content.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

Conduct Parent Interview during evaluations.

Prepare materials for instruction.

Prepare evaluation and RTI materials on a regular basis.

Completes parent rating scales under supervision of diagnostic team.

Completes parent components of developmental evaluations under supervision of diagnostic team.

Complete all purchasing card orders for all LEAP classrooms following all financial guidelines.

Organize materials for all community staff.

Conduct group and individual lessons under teacher supervision.

Record student progress on data sheets.

Supervise students at lunch, recess, or during teacher conferences, staffing, or in-service meetings.

Accompany students to and from bus, classroom and/or bathroom.

Assist in assessment of students as instructed by teacher.

Assist individual students during instructional activities.

Understand and use communication programs designed for non-verbal students.

Know and follow emergency procedures for shunt failure and/or seizures.

Assist or change diapers and/or diaper liners.

Assist or change soiled clothing.

Assist or perform catheterization.

Assist or place students on toilet.

Assist in maintaining balance on toilet.

Assist in wiping and clean up.

Adhere to teacher’s behavior management system.

Promote independence in students.

Assist in food preparation for student with special needs or diets.

Assist in dressing students: putting on clothes, buttoning, snapping, zipping, or tying shoes.

Use orthopedic equipment properly; such as par podiums, leg braces, walkers, and wheelchairs.

Position student properly in or out of their specific orthopedic apparatus.

Assist in/or blowing nose.

Assist in/or wipe drool.

Lift up to 100 pounds.

Use proper body mechanics while transferring students to avoid back or other body injury.

Lift students in and out of wheelchairs.

Lift students from floor to waist level.

Perform other duties as directed by supervising teacher or administrator.
