About the Miami Correctional Facility:

Miami Correctional Facility is located on the former Grissom Air Force Base, on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. This facility is classified as a medium/high maximum security correction facility, housing a maximum of 3,188 offenders. At the DOC, we promote public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.


About the Job:

As the Plant Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising offender workers within the Indiana Department of Correction's ICI Industries operations. Operations include, but are not limited to, traditional industries, joint venture partnerships, service operations, commissary, and warehousing. In this role, you will be supervised by the Plant Manager.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supervise offender workers in the production work of assigned shop.
  • Provide on-the-job training to offenders in the manufacturing, processing, and/or shipping of products.
  • Ensure that the offenders register and fulfill the training according to work processes as defined by United States Department of Labor (USDOL) Apprenticeship Program.
  • Perform or supervise the set up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide all applicable safety training to offender workers for assigned areas of supervision.
  • Monitor quality control of finished goods and work being performed.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in the production of goods or services, or related experience.
    • Substitution: Each two (2) years of high school may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Completion of an accredited vocational training program related to the area of assignment may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of one (1) year.
  • Thorough knowledge of one or more of the areas of manufacturing, including knowledge of equipment maintenance and set-up.
  • Ability to follow production schedules and monitor quality of work.
  • Ability to resolve operational problems.
  • Ability to supervise offenders performing work that requires exactness and accuracy, while ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with custody policy and procedure.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
