Job description

As the Plant Buyer your new role will be highly visible in an important market to the company. You will be responsible for working across multiple work teams to include operations, business units, vendors, and suppliers in order to prepare proposals, quotes, and agreements that create savings for the business. Your new position will also apply continuous improvement methods to reduce the overall costs of the commodities you support. You’ll use your ability to prepare and analyze data in order to create a case for savings.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities necessary to purchase goods, materials, supplies, and services to meet the organization’s standards of price, quality, deliver, and reliability of supply to support two manufacturing facilities (Manchester & Lincoln)
  • Enter orders into DataStream (soon SAP) system for managerial approval and release.
  • Support the analysis of supplier bids, tenders, proposals, or quotations with terms that are in the organization’s best interest, negotiation.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve problems with the timeliness or quality of supplies.
  • Identify, research, and evaluate suppliers that meet the organization’s standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply.
  • Support the Assessment of supplier’s products to ensure they that they comply with specifications and meet the organization’s quality standards.
  • Collect purchasing related data and provide management with operational reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of procurement or sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Economics, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration, or another related field (or at least 5 years of related/similar experience in lieu of degree) is a plus
  • Energetic, ability to work independently with minimal direction, as well as excellent negotiating skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; must be able to perform in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills a must.
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • You must be a team player with very good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to build effective client and team relationships.
  • You should be highly motivated and able to work pro-actively in a dynamic environment, with flexibility and resilience to adapt to unexpected changes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel - SAP knowledge is a plus
