This opportunity entails being responsible for supporting the coordination and implementation of public engagement and involvement programs for CREATE and other projects. This position assists with the development of communication strategies including materials, and digital and print content, researches and gathers data and creates and provides project messaging resources to educate the community. Additionally, this position will assist in recordkeeping and reporting, and attendance at public meetings as appropriate. Other duties associated with CREATE would be assisting on grants and program financials. Outside the CREATE program, this position performs tasks for transportation planning projects including research, studies, and documentation, coordinating with multi-discipline team members, from concept development through project completion. Work emphasizes design and technical aspects of projects but may include tasks associated with business development.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
  • Identifies planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and provides recommendations on planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
  • Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
  • Participates in client meetings and interactions.
  • Leads preparation of maps, exhibits, and presentation materials for projects.
  • Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.
  • Participates in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects
  • Writes major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Participates in public process and stakeholder facilitation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 4 years related professional experience, or
  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Proficient at using software specific to planning jobs. Aids Planners I and II in increasing their software proficiency.
  • Analyzes data to provide findings and recommendations to more experienced staff to move the project forward and determine solutions. Provides direction on data resources to less experienced staff.
  • Developing materials and documents using Adobe (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy) and Microsoft products. Proficient with PowerPoint formatting, consistency, and editing templates.
  • Researching with guidance from senior staff.
  • Supporting the logistics of the public outreach plan (e. g. venue coordination, logistics, generating materials, and staffing), developing materials checklist, and providing oversight for event management. Interacting with clients, the public, internal partners, and others.
  • Using basic graphic design skills and following existing style guides with guidance from more-senior staff. Giving direction about complex visuals/materials to Graphic Designers.
