Boulder County's Office of Community Planning and Permitting is seeking to hire a Planning Technician. There is an opening for a full-time Planning Technician to join a team committed to providing the best in public service and ensuring a viable, sustainable, and safe future. This is an entry-level, highly visible position that has daily interaction with applicants, various design professionals, other county staff, and members of the public and preforms a range of technical level planning work.

This is a full time, benefitted position. The work schedule for this position is flexible Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. This position is located at 2 045 13th Street in Boulder, Colorado. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $53,208.00 - $64,974.00 annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:
  • Phone Screening: May 29th
  • First Round Interviews: June 5th

Examples of Duties

  • Assist with planning research, building permit review, other background and information support
  • Provide information related to the Boulder County Land Use Code, the Building Code, the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan, and other County policies and regulations to the public, other County staff, and various outside professionals in a clear, concise manner
  • Participate in on-call planning support by answering inquiries through email and phone calls
  • Utilizes County-specific database and other software to maintain files and docket related information
  • Conduct pre-application meetings with potential applicants to identify appropriate planning processes for proposed development, provide site-specific information, and answer any questions the applicant may have
  • Performs related work as required
  • May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of two years of college with courses in planning or related field, such as but not limited to civil engineering, landscape architecture, and architecture and one year of experience in planning, environmental design, or related field. Additional education may count towards required experience.
