Job Highlights:

SSM Health Dean Medical Group, a 450+ physician multi-specialty group based in Madison, WI is actively recruiting an OB/GYN Nocturnist (.85FTE) to join our group. Our Ob/Gyn Madison Division currently consists of 10 well established generalist Ob/Gyn physicians, 1 Urogynecologist, 3 Perinatologists, 1 other Nocturnist, 4 Certified Nurse Midwives and 10 Advanced Practitioners. The Division is highly respected and well recognized by their peers for their exceptional skills and high quality of care. Our Division takes pride in participating in the University of Wisconsin Ob/Gyn Residency Program. We also actively train University of Wisconsin Family Medicine Residents on our labor and delivery floor. As such, we are looking for candidates who have interest in resident physician teaching. The typical Nocturnist schedule is 10p-8a in house coverage for Labor & Delivery, Emergency Room and OB/GYN inpatients at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison from Sunday through Friday every other week. Qualified candidates should be board certified/eligible and comfortable in caring for high risk obstetrical patients. In addition, candidates should be skilled in providing surgical management of common OB/GYN conditions (e.g. ectopic pregnancy, incomplete abortion, ovarian cysts, etc.)

The St. Mary's Hospital Family Birth Center provides comprehensive, family-centered services including labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn care. Services are provided for both high-risk and low-risk pregnancies and newborns. Over 2,300 babies are delivered at St. Mary's each year and care for close to 500 fragile newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The competent and caring nursing staff of the Family Birth Center strives to honor every family's individual birth plan within a private, home-like environment.

The Birth Suites provide private rooms for the labor, delivery and recovery period, and three cesarean section operating rooms. The unit was designed to enhance privacy and family involvement at all stages of the birthing process. Care after birth is provided in private rooms in the Family Care Suites where we encourage family participation in the care of the newborn. Though most babies room with their mothers, St. Mary's nursery staff offers skilled care and a tender touch if needed. St. Mary’s has been officially designated as a Baby-Friendly® Hospital and meets the high standards set by the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) for providing the best possible breastfeeding support for mother and baby in the maternity setting.

The Antepartum Obstetrical unit provides care to women who are hospitalized before delivery due to complications of pregnancy.

The St. Mary's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was the first facility in the state of Wisconsin to care for critically ill newborns. The NICU, which is a Level III unit has 31 beds, is staffed by six neonatologists and nurses who specialize in care of 490 critically ill newborns annually.

The Community

Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, offers a quality of life second to none. As featured in Money magazine as the "Best Place to Live in America" out of the 300 largest U.S. cities, Madison offers a strong economy, outstanding health care and a range of cultural activities usually found only in cities far larger than this. Home to over 220,000, Madison is situated on an isthmus between the areas two largest lakes, a setting that offers impressive beauty, a compact and vital metropolitan area, and a wide variety of recreational activities. Madison's climate brings four distinct seasons with blue skies, golden leaves, clear water and sparkling snow. Just an hour away lie peaceful retreats among the woods, gently flowing streams, and lush valleys of southern Wisconsin. Madisonian’s enjoy nearby downhill ski hills, extensive cross-country ski trails, a nationally ranked trout stream, and more bicycle trails than any other state in the nation. These qualities combine to make Madison one of seven "Dream Cities in the United States" for outdoor enthusiasts according to Outside magazine in July 1995.

Cultural activities abound, from the summer open-air Concerts on the Square by the Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra to theater, opera, and ballet at the Overture Center for the Arts. Independent theater groups, including the highly acclaimed American Player¹s Theater in nearby Spring Green, offer year-round variety on the stage. The area hosts concerts in a range of venues, including the annual Isthmus Jazz Festival, as well as an array of night life that only a university town can offer. For those seeking an escape to the "big city" Milwaukee, Chicago and Minneapolis are within a few hours’ drive. Madison is economically healthy, with ample opportunities in education, government, industry, finance, health care, and biotechnology.

The public schools are among the best in the country, with more recipients of the Presidential Award of Excellence than any other city in the United States. Commutes are short, the cost of living reasonable, and the crime rate low. Madison's unique blend of features and opportunities make it a premier place to live.
