The GWorld Card Program Office is part of the Division of Safety & Facilities at the George Washington University. The GWorld system is an enterprise level system that is mission critical to university operations and campus security. GWorld is the ID card used for campus identification, physical access, parking access, and declining balance financial accounts at GWU for dining and other services. The GWorld team includes a small team of lock and reader technicians.
The Physical Security Technician, GWorld position works with other members of the GWorld Physical Security team to ensure that all access control readers, electronic locks, and head end infrastructure are properly installed and maintained. This position is vital to the safety and security of GW campuses by providing daily operational support of the physical access system. The Physical Security Technician reports to the Physical Security Infrastructure Manager position.
More specifically, the Physical Security Technician, GWorld will:
- Install/repair/maintain electronic locks, including magnetic locks, mortise, cylindrical, strike, and exit devices.
- Install/repair/maintain door monitoring hardware, including door contacts and motion detectors.
- Install/repair/maintain access control hardware, including card readers, control panels, and power supplies.
- Install cabling for access control hardware.
- Work closely with GWorld staff to ensure proper function and programming of access control hardware.
- Schedules and issues work orders and performs inspections for quality control.
- Ability to plan, assign, review, and inspect work, coordinate work with other trades.
- Collaborates with teams across the Division of Safety & Facilities to ensure safety and security on campus.
- Work with vendors and manufacturers to resolve hardware or related system issues.
- Performs emergency maintenance on locks and door hardware.
- Is available on an on call basis to report onsite for emergency hardware repairs.
Performs other work-related duties as requested. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Experience installing/maintaining electric locks and peripheral hardware.
- Familiarity with Building, Life Safety and ADA codes.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
- Ability to understand and review architectural & mechanical drawings.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Competent communication and correspondence skills.
- Ability to interact with a diverse population to include students, faculty, staff, and external contractors and vendors.
- Ability to utilize and manage work order ticket system using AIM or other CMMS.
- Proficiency with computers and other smart devices.
- Knowledge of safe work practices based on industry standards, injury and illness prevention practices.
