HeartShare is looking for a Peer Navigator

Responsibilities:*

• In addition to responsibilities below, performs all other duties as assigned.
• Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoids gossip and negative discussions. Remains flexible and adapts to change.
• Serves as role model for program participants. Abides dress code. Conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
• Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff.
• Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management.
• Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision and values of the agency. Personally, adheres to organizational mission, vision and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.
• Your lived expertise will provide a distinct advantage as you support existing young people toward a more hopeful future.
• Responsible for evaluating life skills through engagement.
• Organize workshops that focus on life skills, financial literacy, and personal and professional development for young people.
• Facilitate, develop, and participate in skill building workshops.
• Provide biweekly individual check ins and report necessary support to team. This will include making referrals to outside services when needed such as substance abuse, mental health, etc…
• Collaborate with Evolve Youth team to de-escalate conflicts when appropriate.
• Maintaining a database on life skills activities and attendance.
• Document engagements with young people in our Eccovia database system in accordance with CTI Model.
• Work with young people to identify barriers to housing and support their independent goals
• Collaborate with young people on their individualized employment goals focusing on self-sufficiency and identifying short-term steps toward reaching these goals.
• Attend monthly YAB meetings and report updates to Evolve Youth Staff.
• Support young people with exploring careers of interest, identifying vocational programs, and enrolling and pursuing stackable vocational certifications.
• Manage tenant referrals and follow up with phone calls.
• Assist young people in the enrollment process in educational programs and/or college/vocational/technical programs.
• Performs other duties deem necessary to support the needs of the youths and the program

Qualifications:*

• * High School Diploma required*. Associates Degree in related fields /Bachelor's degree from four- year college or equivalent preferred
• Hybrid work schedule.
• Knowledge and understanding of homeless population
• Experience conducting groups and developing appropriate and relevant youth programing.
• Comfortable traveling throughout NYC
• Work Flexible Hours

Location: 89-31 161st Street, Jamaica, NY 11432

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
