POSITION OVERVIEW
The temporary Payroll Specialist will assist the HRIS & Payroll Manager in processing biweekly payroll for approximately 450-500 union and non-union employees who work in OR and WA. This position is a temporary, 3-month assignment, located at our beautiful location on Swan Island in Portland, OR.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the HRIS & Payroll Manager to prepare paychecks, ensuring that employees are paid timely and correctly

  • Process timecards, review for accuracy and approvals

  • Prepare weekly, biweekly, and monthly reports (ie benefits, probationary period, and union enrollment)

  • Audit payroll for mileage submissions, accruals, and hours

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Operating in an open office environment, this position is full-time, expected to work 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, although there is some flexibility regarding the start time. Availability during common business hours is a must while outside normal operating hours may be required on occasion.

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas in an atmosphere of verbal communication.

  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information provided through oral communication and disseminate the information.

  • Substantial and repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers, such as with data entry on a computer.

  • Remaining stationary for long periods of time. Ability to move objects up to 25 pounds from one location to another frequently or occasionally.

  • Having ability to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; accessing information from a computer terminal.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent

  • Minimum of 1 year payroll experience preferred

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required

  • Familiarity with HRIS and Payroll systems preferred. Paycom experience a plus

  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines

  • Must manage confidential information using discretion

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
