Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, based on the needs of the department, responsibilities are a combination of providing direct patient care and technical assistance to the nurse and performing a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit. The Patient Care Tech must have excellent communication skills. It is imperative that they are able to communicate effectively using tact and sensitivity. They must be self-motivated and able to work and make decisions with limited supervision, keeping others appropriately informed. It is important to have a strong knowledge of emergency procedures and be able to stay calm in stressful situations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Less than High School Diploma or GED - With the intent of completion of the High School diploma or GED. Must have C.N.A certification if without High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize, Analytical, Medical Terminology, Organizational & Verbal Communication
  • Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required within 7 days of hire

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs job duties in a manner to consistently improve the patient experience and minimize delays. Assists with hourly rounding utilizing the "4 P's" (Pain, Position, Potty, Pamper). Promptly answers call lights and responds appropriately. Supportive of others involved in patient's care. Assists the patient and family with coordinating care to meet individual needs.
  • Consistently demonstrates cost savings activities: Minimize supply waste. Demonstrates ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently. Offers suggestions for cost savings
  • Demonstrates knowledge of departmental information by: regularly attending staff meetings, reading email information, attending departmental in-service offerings, reading communication books, reviewing available literature and resource material.
  • Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, i.e., code blue, MRT, code orange, etc.
  • Demonstrates appropriate and effective conflict resolution skills. Step 1: Addresses issues with individuals involved in a courteous and professional manner. Step 2: Escalates issues to appropriate CRN / Manager, as necessary.
