This Opportunity

WSP is initiating a search for a Survey Party Chief to join our Raleigh, NC location. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with an exceptional management team, highly regarded in the market, and within a supportive and collaborative company culture. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a robust and rapidly growing Survey team offering ongoing training/mentoring and promotional opportunities, as well as a stable backlog of mainly local work requiring minimal travel. This team works with state of the art surveying equipment and offers flexible schedules including 10 hour day work schedule Monday thru Thursday.

Your Impact

  • Supervise Survey Crew (1-2 staff crews)
  • Keep accurate, organized and complete field notes
  • Communicate with office staff on daily basis
  • Operate and maintain robotic instrument, total stations, sdata collector, GPS (fast static, RTK and VRS), digital levels
  • Use and obtain historical data from property/utility records, deeds, land/property titles, structural plans, and other matrices for land surveying activities
  • Follows state specific standards of practice to provide professional survey assistance that accounts for accurate survey data, and determines conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, boundaries, and construction specifications
  • Assist with writing surveying reports summarizing site inspection and survey findings and conclusions; generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, scientists, project control, and technicians on assigned survey tasks
  • Perform weekly instruments calibrations in order to maintain their accuracy
  • Ensure that both you and your crews comply daily with WSP and client specific safety guidelines and provide required safety documentation and records
  • Engage in occasional contact with client personnel to schedule and coordinate project survey activities
  • Remain current in latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, property descriptions, and GPS surveys
  • 5+ Years of experience as a survey party chief
  • Excellent communication skills, field note taking, good math skills, ability to work as a one-person crew as necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural or urban surroundings
  • Experience with both public and private sector work (e.g. state, city, county, utility districts, and private land development)
  • Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening, including a valid Driver's license
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Leica Based Survey Equipment preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of various DOT survey and SUE experience
  • Transmission and Distribution Line survey experience
  • Knowledge of FAA sUAS Part 107 requirements and sUAS Pilot Licensure with relevant flight experience
  • Associates Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology or related areas
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook #LI-PJ1
