Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for a part-time instructor to be section instructor for MND 613 Emerging Media Platforms (3 credits). For this term, synchronous sessions will run April 5-June 14, 2023. This course will be Wednesdays 9:00-10:45pm.

Description: Students in this course will learn to identify and embrace opportunities posed by emerging media technologies. This course includes a survey of the latest technologies and trends that are changing how people access, interact with and publish news and information.

This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible. Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred.
Significant teaching and/or professional experience in the field.

Job Specific Qualifications
Applicants should be familiar/have experience with the following technologies:
1. Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and “Presence” – Immersive virtual reality and “story experiencing” through computer-generated scenes.
2. 360 and 3D Video – Spherical videos that are experienced through cardboard viewers, holding a phone in the air or clicking around in a browser.
3. Reality Capture — 3D scanning, photogrammetry, lightfield cameras. Also includes gesture interfaces the utilize structural data sensors like Leap Motion and Kinects (“Minority Report” interfaces).
4. Drones – Flying cameras, sensors and reality capture from the sky.
5. Wearables and Sensors – Wearable computers, biometrics and “Internet of Things.”

Responsibilities
View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session.

Conduct discussions for each week’s live session based on direction from the coordinator of MND 613. Be available to meet for these discussions on the online platform provided. Follow guidance of coordinator on topics related to the asynchronous material, student questions and progress, assignments and exams, and the introduction of timely topical news and information that may apply to course concepts, relevant case studies and articles.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Attend immersion sessions, if invited, when offered.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to instruct the class on the online platform on the days it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
