PARAEDUCATOR

(Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1)


**We are hiring for this position to start in Fall 2023**

SALARY: $3,167 - 3,558 per month (for 9.5 months each year)

LOCATION: Lynnwood, WA

DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of the Mental Health & Disabilities Paraeducator is to support a program-wide culture that promotes children’s mental health, social and emotional well-being, and overall health. The Mental Health & Disabilities Paraeducator performs a variety of coaching, classroom support, and administrative duties to assist the Teacher/Family Advocates, Home Visitors, and Mental Health & Disabilities Specialist in their work with children. This position is full time, cyclical, and reports to the Mental Health & Disabilities Specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement Pyramid Model Strategies of positive behavior intervention and supports
  • Model strategies for teaching staff
  • Consult on student behavior
  • Coach staff in using positive behavior support strategies
  • Perform individual and group training
  • Attend IEP/IFSP meetings, if needed
  • Provide temporary one-on-one support to children while Teacher/Family Advocate or Home Visitor is meeting with parents, in the classroom or in the family’s home
  • Complete disability reports as needed
  • Database monitoring and entry
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • State ECE certificate (34 credit program)
  • 2 years of work experience with 0-5 year olds

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an early childhood education environment. Must be able to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a child's size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levels. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. Those who are multilingual are strongly encouraged to apply. Must be able to transport self to home visits and off-site trainings and meetings.


WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday: 40 hours per week


COMPENSATION:

Salary range 39. Beginning salary is $30,086 - $33,801 annually (divided between 9.5 months each year), with progressive increases to $39,111, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options, and more. Vacation and leave package includes 9 sick days per year, 9 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 2 personal leave days, and 10.5 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 18.75 vacation days per year).


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be able to transport self to off-site trainings and meetings
  • Required vaccines: TDap, MMR, Hep B series, COVID-19
  • Must show a negative TB Test and obtain a health provider statement showing free of communicable diseases
  • Cleared Portable Background Check through DCYF
