This position is part of a team providing Integrated Logistics Support Services (ILSS) for the US Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Force Storage Command (MFSC), 1st FSB, on location at Barstow, CA.

The Shipping Packer performs inventory management tasks in connection with shipping and / or storing material under the direction of senior supply staff. This position prepares inventory assets for shipment or storage by placing them in shipping or storage containers, preparing and affixing the appropriate labeling, and by placing the assets into transportation or storage locations. Shipping Packers input inventory transactions into various IT/Logistics Information Systems. This is an entry level position.

The position complies with all safety and environmental requirements and ensures compliance with the Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) plan.



Duties/Responsibilities
The Shipping Packer performs shipping duties such as verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against system records and documents; ensuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and loaded into transporting vehicles; and preparing and keeping records of material shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading.

Specific duties include:
  • Accurately maintaining inventory and transaction records with USMC and DOD systems
  • Picking and packing items from storage locations and preparing them for shipment
  • Preparing documents such as material release orders, issue/ receipt documents, bills of lading, and or shipping labels to properly route materials
  • Selecting the appropriate type and size of container, using cushioning or protective inserts, and securing the container
  • Rectifying problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications

This position is designated as Mission Essential and may require overtime and or modified work schedules.

Required Education and Experience:
  • A good working knowledge of supply chain management principles.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD License for operated equipment, note: an opportunity to gain a DoD License will be provided after hire.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines (to include the Marine Corps databases of GSCC and DPAS
