Position Summary
The Outreach Workers for the Greater Illinois Reimagine Violence Prevention Services program will direct participants and families in preventative measures. They will interact with participants on conflicts and mediation efforts to reduce retaliatory violence between those who are at risk to commit or to become the victims of firearm violence. They must understand the service area and be willing to engage with high-risk individuals in a variety of settings, including parks, homes, street corners, community centers, schools, hospitals, etc. This position will require availability on weekends and evenings and will work on a four-day rotational week.

Responsibilities/Performance Requirements:

  • Uphold consistent attendance and punctuality as part of the rapid response team and follow-up (24 hours/7 days)
  • Actively respond to critical incidents within one hour of notification of events such as shootings and homicides, to de-escalate tension and reduce/address threats of violence.
  • If applicable, provide clinical and social services based on qualifications, licensure and certification
  • Accurately maintain client surveillance, intakes, and outreach activity logs and report findings to the outreach supervisor monthly
  • Maintain appropriate records for caseloads of a maximum of 15 participants at any given time.
  • Participate and lead in outreach activities for the implementation of conflict and mediation efforts to participants and families (restorative justice practices, event outings, peace circles, etc..).
  • Actively maintain basic necessary resources for immediate service response and establish referrals for additional, non-emergency services and support for the victim and family to preserve stability.
  • Offer service provision suggestions based on provided data to the program implementer and supervisor
  • Participate in staff training meetings, conferences, and other events as approved by higher-level management
  • Assist in and participate in annual site evaluations, training, and in the development and planning of additional community impact programs related to the work of the Joliet Township Government
  • Collaborate with outreach staff, and other departments and follow Joliet Township Government policies/procedures
  • Provide communications and strategies related to violence prevention and partnerships with the community and organizations
  • Provide referral through IRIS, for wrap around service provisions for patients, track and report monthly referral outcomes to supervisor.
  • Behave with integrity, demonstrate high ethical standards, and display a positive image of Joliet Township
  • Performs other related tasks as required or assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expressive and receptive communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and competently.
  • Adeptness with multitasking.
  • Computer literacy including keyboarding ability and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  • Is open and respectful of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population.

Education and Experience

  • Extensive, relevant fieldwork experience utilizing effective, trauma informed interventions with verifiable references.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation are required.
  • Strong computer skills are required.

WORK CONDITIONS: This position may require work on weekends, evenings, and nights.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience between $40,000 and $45,000
