DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a full-time, Outreach and Support Specialist for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP).

This is a grant-funded, full-time, Classified position. We are seeking an equity-minded person who is committed to supporting our diverse student population and the District Mission. Please review our District Mission, Goals, and Values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the appropriate administrator, recruits and supports students and prospective students through the matriculation process, which may include an assignment of special and disproportionately impacted populations; informs and connects students with a variety of campus student support programs including financial aid and other specialized programs and services; serves as a liaison between the special populations, communities, and students in the District and the College.
The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and the Mendocino-Lake Adult and Career Education (ML ACE) have existed since 1972 and 2015 respectively.

HEP assists migratory and seasonal farm workers (or children of such workers) who are 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in school to obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma and, subsequently, to gain employment or begin postsecondary education or training. The program serves 70 students annually.

Successful candidate is anticipated to start June 1, 2023.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary Range (24): The monthly salary range is $4,087 - $5,111 . There are five annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President. Please see the current salary schedule here: MLCCD - Salary Schedule

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.

Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support institutional success by executing the following duties:

Works with supervisor to develop and coordinate recruiting and retention activities for students and prospective students, which may include disproportionately impacted and other student populations;

Communicates with Counselors, Instructors, and Student Services staff as needed;

Conducts workshops, seminars, and presentations such as college orientation; coordinates all details and arrangements; works with the Public information officer to create and disseminate appropriate publicity;

Serves as a liaison between the special population communities/students, the District, and the College. including parent meetings, works closely with appropriate educational coordinators in Mendocino and Lake Counties to perform the duties of the position;

Assists students and prospective students in the completion of the matriculation process, which may include coordinating with multiple departments to facilitate the completion of: enrollment applications, course registration, grant paperwork and all other scholarships and grants; explains available college services; and refers students to appropriate support services. Assists students in the completion of program specific paperwork;

Coordinates, participates in and implements program specific student activities on and off campus; including but not limited to orientations, presentations, program activities, and recruitment events;

Provides information on issues related to education and student services; provides other reports as needed; may represent the College on the appropriate Advisory Committee;

Coordinates with CAMP, EOPS, CARE, Financial Aid and other student support programs; Assists, follows up, and supports students regarding application processes for financial aid and other available programs and services for which special student populations may be eligible; follows up with students to ensure they complete the processes correctly and successfully;

Assists the appropriate resource services in daily operations, including but not limited to the Native American Student Resource Center and the Veteran Resource Center;

Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files; tracks budgets and expenditures;

Answers telephones; schedules appointments with students; greets students and visitors; makes appropriate referrals to college staff and other outside agencies as needed for students;

Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer and Microsoft Office software;

Attends related meetings and workshops; performs other student services duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office environment, subject to interruptions and distractions; as needed, job duties including driving or attending events at schools, college centers, community events, Rancherias, reservations, and other locations as needed. Physical demands include sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs).

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Prior to beginning employment)
