Outpatient Forensic Examiner
Normal Working Hours/Days: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours will be required
allowing for travel for evaluation and testimony.
Location: Primary location is in Mobile, but candidate job duties will require travel to other counties.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform face-to-face outpatient court-ordered forensic evaluations to determine adjudicative competence, criminal responsibility, competency to waive Miranda, and risk of violence as assigned by the JBS Mental Health Authority. Juvenile forensic evaluations may also be assigned.
Evaluations should include, but not be limited to:
  • a clinical interview appraising relevant background information
  • current mental status of the defendant
  • any necessary testing that assists in answering the psycho legal question at issue
  • review of relevant records
  • conducting any necessary collateral interviews
Travel to various parts of the state to conduct evaluations and provide testimony.
Data collection and analysis.
Prepare written report of forensic evaluation for submission for to court.
Provide expert witness testimony for court proceedings.
Maintain adequately detailed and accurate client records in accordance with applicable state laws and standards.
Assist in supervision and implementation of outpatient competency restoration services, as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of ethical standards governing the practice of forensic psychology.
Excellent writing and communication skills
Familiarity with word processing software and email applications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university with a Doctorate degree in Psychology and experience (24 months or more) in forensic psychology. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in both adult and juvenile forensic evaluations and those applicants with certification from the American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of or eligibility for psychology licensure as issued by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology. Completion of Certified Forensic Examiner training is required within one year of hire for continued employment.
