Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is crucial to enhancing the clinical resources of a four (4) clinic county public health department system.

This employee will have direct patient care responsibilities including the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions of adult patients. This will include reviewing prior medical records, reports, test results, and examination information. Incumbent will prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury. Incumbent will explain procedures and discuss test results with patients. Incumbent will refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary. Clear documentation in the electronic health record, and occasional paper format is expected. Accurate CPT coding and diagnosis coding must be performed for each patient visit and documentation in the chart must support this coding. Incumbent may provide input and review of local health department protocols and will also assist in quality control. Inpatient medical coverage is not required for this position.

Incumbent will participate in medical quality assurance activities. Teaching and guidance of Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and others is a vital role for any physician in our department. Incumbent may serve as a preceptor for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner students, Physician Assistant students, or Medical Students or Residents as assigned.

Although his/her main scope of practice will include adult medical ambulatory care including well-woman care, Incumbent may also be expected to provide care for the full scope of public health practice which includes family planning, TB, STD, HIV disease, international travel immunization, and communicable disease control. If applicable, language translation skills will be utilized.

Incumbent will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, Advanced Registered Nursing Practitioners, County Health Nurses, Registered Nurses, care coordinators and other ancillary staff in the public health setting.

Performs other duties as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Ability to talk to others to effectively convey information.
  • Ability to listen to what other people are saying and ask questions as appropriate.
  • Ability to teach others how to do something.
  • Ability to know how to find information and identify essential information.
  • Ability to perform computer skills to enable navigation in an electronic health record, and to allow access to e-mail, such as Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

  • This occupation requires licensure as a physician pursuant to Chapter 458, Florida Statutes; or licensure as an osteopathic physician pursuant to Chapter 459, Florida Statutes; or a current Public Health Certificate issued by the Florida Board of Medical Examiners pursuant to Chapter 458.316, Florida Statutes.
  • Board eligibility or board certification is required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
