Job description

Provides senior leadership for the site with responsibility as Plant Manager back up. Supports plant goals for Safety, process safety, environmental performance, quality, productivity, and cost through efficient application of operations resources. Continuously drives improvements to the plant’s training and production processes. Direct reports (7) include 4 production Supervisors, Sr. production Supervisor, Sr. Production Engineer and WWTP Supervisor; indirect reports (52) include 3 WWTP Technicians and 49 hourly Process Operators.


Day to Day Support (85%)

  • Drives operational excellence activities, continuous improvement in processes and root cause analysis
  • Manages technical resources between projects and assisting with daily troubleshooting to operate the plant efficiently.
  • Manages operations team performance through PMP and regular feedback/communication to maximize effectiveness; ensures team receives training and development in key areas.
  • Partners with Maintenance and Process Technical departments to ensure plant priorities are met, respecting the budget and production planning.
  • Manages and continuously improves operations training and qualification process
  • Ensures effective communication and engagement with plant hourly employees.
  • Abides by terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement; properly responds to grievances and resolves differences with union leadership
  • Participates in the Sales & Operating Planning process; works closely with business team to meet order to ship targets; support customer complaints resolution.
  • Ensure timely completion of investigations and completion of actions generated from HES programs.
  • Participates in Management of Change process; ensures NOC and PSSR compliance.
  • Actively participates in the plant Safety Committee; drives behavior based safety culture.

Administrative (15%)

  • Develops and manages department budget; responsible for variable cost and RPE generated from production units
  • Control and resolve any issues with consumption variance analysis
  • Maintains batch standards, capacity and rate spreadsheets.

Required Education/Experience:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in manufacturing management
  • Strong PSM and chemical manufacturing process experience
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team of direct and indirect reports in a union environment
  • Working knowledge of sales & operations planning processes.
  • Six sigma certification and/or experience in Lean Six Sigma Operational Excellence implementation preferred
  • Advanced MS office Skills, SAP experience preferred
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Proven leadership ability.
