Job Purpose: The Occupational Health Coordinator is a RN responsible for leading the onsite clinic, providing clinical services, health assessments, and case management at a client facility dedicated to saving and sustaining lives.


Primary Responsibilities


Clinical Care

  • Understanding and following applicable standards and guidelines
  • Providing nursing assessment and interventions within the scope of practice of the registered nurse (RN). Assessment includes obtaining a complete history, performing a physical assessment noting deviations & making a nursing assessment. Interventions include selecting and administering medications and recommending medical limitations or restrictions to activity, all within the clinical guidelines approved by the client
  • Evaluate employees with work-related injuries and illnesses and/or personal medical conditions for their fitness for duty. This includes obtaining and reviewing standards and guidelines, completing a medical history and performing any needed physical assessments to define the appropriate work placement for the employee’s medical status
  • Provide first aid/initial treatment and triage for site employees and contractors who experience work-related injuries
  • Provides health-related counseling and oversight of the counseling services provided by supervised OH staff members and qualified vendors.
  • Responsible for the on-site drug and alcohol testing program, including follow-up with outcomes
  • Applies ergonomic principles effectively

Medical Surveillance

  • Manages all required surveillance examinations, testing, & tracking
  • Administer health assessment services & health assessment employee review

Medical Emergency Response

  • Provide emergency medical response as required.
  • Participate in the management and training of the on-site Emergency Response Team.
  • Interface with local care providers to enable quality and continuity of care following a possible injury, illness, or exposure.

Case Management Responsibilities

  • Provide personal and work-related injury case management as defined by the client’s policies and guidelines. Case management includes working with 3rd party vendors, obtaining and reviewing health and position information on a case, developing a specific plan for returning the employee to the highest level of job capability given the medical condition and then monitoring, tracking and communicating progress.
  • Designs an effective case management program including coordination with other health care professionals, human resources, department managers, and insurance carrier representatives or TPA to facilitate timely return to work and appropriate utilization of benefits.

Health Promotion Program Role

  • Designs and manages the occupational health program to meet employee health risks develop related policies, programs, and procedures, establish goals for health management programs, and measures outcomes. Establishes priorities and organizes department workflow.
  • Actively participates in continuing professional education and presents on occupational health topics both internally and externally. Maintains professional certification and mentors other OHNs to achieve the same.

Medical Records

  • Establishes and maintains a documentation system for occupational health record keeping and confidentiality. Responsible for all required OH reporting. Compiles and analyzes statistical information related to OH.

Administrative

  • Standard office admin duties as needed

Leadership

  • Maintains professional competence at a high level and presents on occupational health topics both internally and externally. Incorporates current research into occupational health strategies.
  • Contributes to goal setting and the completion of organizational projects and goals through the effective use of project management skills.
  • Supervises or mentors other occupational health professionals within the facility. Actively supports EHS team initiatives by providing OH perspective. Contributes to and/or manages new hire orientation, required EHS training, and health promotion programming.
  • Establishes working relationships with appropriate community agencies and health consultants to achieve program support and optimum health care for employees. Responsible for maintaining a high level of expertise through participation in continuing education for professional growth.
  • Assures compliance with applicable health and safety regulations

Competencies Required


Employment Testing:

  • Physical skill assessment
  • Certification in Hearing Conservation & Spirometry is desirable

Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the state of Mississippi
  • BLS Certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing is desirable
  • Ability to organize, plan, work independently, and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • 5-7 years of nursing experience
  • 2-5 years of occupational health nursing preferred

Schedule: Day Shift, rotating to provide approximately 2 hours of coverage of other production shifts, on-call as needed
