Title: Nursing Assistant Specialist
Facility: Fidelity Health Care
Job Reports to: Supervisor, Independent Care Services
General Summary/Responsibilities:
The Nursing Assistant Specialist is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who provides physical and mental support for the patient, performs light housekeeping and meal preparation and provides companionship and incidental personal care. This specialist may work under the supervision of a licensed nurse to perform basic nursing tasks as assigned.
Dimensions:
Assigned to cases by Scheduling Department to work with patients in variety of settings.
Organizational Standards
§ Maintains and supports overall philosophy, goals and objectives of Fidelity Health Care and the Independent Care Program and its contracts.
§ Complies with all agency regulations/policies/procedures:
§ Attends all scheduled in-services and staff meetings.
§ Appropriately arranges time off coverage and communicates this with agency.
§ Is responsible for maintaining minimum weekend on-call, holiday or other requirements established by the department.
§ Maintains minimum productivity expectations.
Job Limitations:
- May not receive orders from a physician.
- May not administer medications or pre-fill insulin syringes.
- May not perform any sterile procedures or perform any intravenous procedures, enteral feeding or give enemas.
- May not perform procedures requiring the knowledge, training and skill of a licensed nurse, as defined by the supervisor/organization.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
Licensure/Certification/Registration
STNA or CNA certification required
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
Knowledge/Skills
- Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions and document care given.
- Must have completed a Nurse Aide program and have a CNA or STNA
- Must complete agency competencies.
- Must display good physical and emotional health and be capable of stooping and bending and lifting up to 50 lbs. Should demonstrate good personal hygiene.
- Must be self-directed with the ability to work with little direct supervision and have the maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the patient, the patient's family and all other office personnel.
- Must have a sincere interest in and sympathetic attitude toward caring for the sick and disabled at home.
- Must meet all agency personnel policies.
- Must have reliable transportation.
