• A formal orientation program shall be required of all professional personnel who provide patient care in Labor & Delivery.
• All Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses will be trained in techniques of labor and delivery care, and the use of all special equipment in the department.
• Labor and Delivery RNs will attend an annual skills course to validate competency in selected topics and skills for that year.
• Labor and Delivery RNs will demonstrate annual competency in:
  • Fetal monitoring
  • Recovery of regional anesthetic Caesarean Section patients
  • Cricoid pressure for general anesthesia
  • Circulating c/sections (SCN RNs and pool RNs may be excused from the circulating role)

• Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses must have a current NRP card upon hire or obtain within four months following date of hire.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN standard).
• Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88).
• Completion of formal hospital and unit-specific orientation program.
• Must be currently certified in BLS, and recertified as required.
• Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.

• Acute care experience.
• Previous experience using an electronic medical record.
• Previous experience utilizing barcode scanning.
