Summary
We are ready to hire a Network Design Engineer for the Trainers team who delivers cutting edge training systems to the submarine fleets of both the US Navy and Royal Australian Navy. Their work is fast-paced and exciting, and often involves integrating software builds that are not yet complete in order to deliver training for systems and capabilities that are not yet present in the Submarine Fleet. Training is deployed to Navy Bases including San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Bangor, Norfolk, Groton, Kings Bay and Perth, Australia.
What You’ll Experience
- Technical analysis in data network planning, engineering, and design
- Analysis for implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to network problems
- Testing of network systems
- Maintaining technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, hubs, bridges and gateways, etc.
- Coordinating third party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users and department network administrators
- Developing uniform operation procedures
- Evaluating and reporting on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network
- Supporting and assisting in the design and planning of network systems
Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a related specialized area or field (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree
- Knowledge/Experience with any of the following:
- Layer 2/3 switches (Cisco/HP)
- Firewalls (Cisco/Palo Alto)
- VLANs
- Trunking vs. Access
- Port Channel/vPC
- IPs and Subnetting
- Routing
- Ports and Protocols
- ACLs
- TACLANEs
- Experience with Linux/Windows operating systems is a plus
- Ability to handle more complex assignments and grasp and apply new information quickly
