CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid New York State teaching certificate in Music K-12
  • Demonstrated successful classroom experience at the middle and/or high school level
  • Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students in developing problem solving skills

ESSENTIAL CORE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • New York State Certification in Music K-12
  • Evidence of superior knowledge of and demonstrated ability to effectively implement content and performance standards as related to instrumental instruction, rehearsal techniques, music literature and programming for younger middle school band.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire students at a variety of ability levels and to contribute toward the growth of an exemplary band program
  • Possess excellent rehearsal techniques and conducting skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to implement reliable classroom management strategies including the ability to motivate students of varying skill levels and effectively maintain discipline in very large groups.
  • Demonstrate high level of instrument performance skills
  • Demonstrate excellent aural acuity.
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate and inspire students of varying ability levels.
  • Demonstrate success in the preparation of students for NYSSMA, ECMEA, or other comparable instrumental solo or group evaluations.
  • Willingness to work with students before and after regular school hours to provide extra help for their musical performances including preparation for competitions and festivals.
  • Be active in professional organizations, e.g. NAfME, NYSSMA, ECMEA, NYSBDA and continued professional development, e.g. workshops, clinics, courses.
  • Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff members, colleagues, administration, parents, and community groups.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to reflect and contemplate on teaching - allowing for growth and excellence.
  • Demonstrated willingness to contribute within and outside the department for school community and extracurricular events (school musical, tours, advisor, chaperone, club, etc.).
