Brief Description:

The SIL Innovation team (IDX) at SIL International is looking for a MLOps engineer to help advance AI technology expanding language possibilities designed to enable a quarter of the world’s population to flourish better using their mother language.

• This candidate will be part of a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving language communities worldwide as they build capacity for sustainable language development.
• The position is a paid salary position, offers exceptional real-world learning opportunities, and involves work on state-of-the-art (SOTA) NLP solutions and modern infrastructure.
• The MLOps engineer is seeking a full-time engineering position in which they will gain non-profit, business and technical experience.
• They enjoy supporting a team that solves complex problems to generate valuable insights.
• They communicate, create, organize, and advocate the impact of Bible Translation as a critical element of the Great Commission.
• The MLOps engineer will work alongside the existing SIL AI team while being mostly responsible for operationalizing SOTA NLP solutions.
• The MLOps engineer will deploy NLP model servers, develop APIs that interface with various models, develop and manage backing datastores to support NLP operations, automate and test deployments, manage an on-prem GPU server, and generally help architect NLP-based products/ applications.

Responsibilities: Must be able to successfully fulfill the following tasks:

• Help architect and plan product implementations of ideas spun out of NLP R&D.
• Develop, test, and deploy REST and GraphQL APIs using Python or Go.
• Spin up and manage a variety of cloud infrastructure including databases, object stores, and VMs.
• Build, test, and manage Docker images.
• Setup and manage CI/CD pipelines.
• Configure and manage our on-prem GPU server along the associated ClearML software suite.
• Provide general support for the day-to-day operations of SIL’s AI team(s).

Required education:

• Degree in computer science or another quantitative discipline (physics, engineering, etc.) and/or completion of a relevant software engineering bootcamp.
• Python or Go programming Command line (e.g., bash) to navigate file systems, edit files, connect remotely to servers, etc.
• Cloud infrastructure usage and management (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Digital Ocean) Work in a collaborative team environment using an office suite (e.g., Google docs) and shared drives (e.g., Google drive).

Required Qualifications, Certifications, Experience, Etc.

• Previous projects demonstrating the ability to develop and deploy real world APIs or other software products.
• GraphQL API development and usage.
• Management of machine learning or AI models, datasets, inference servers, and pipelines.
• Modern monitoring and alerting infrastructure like Prometheus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
