Job Summary:

As a Mill End Welder at Metal-Matic, you will assists on change-overs under Mill Operator's direction until the setup is complete.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible for the straightness of the product and for determining the surface finish quality of the tubing.
  • Continuously watches and sorts out unacceptable product.
  • Is responsible for length changes under the mill operator's direction. Must be able to check cut tubing for correct length.
  • Assists in making tests under the direction of the Mill Operator.
  • The Mill Assistant "B" will watch for the butt weld. He is responsible for painting the open weld areas. He will cut the painted tubing out of the mill and take a sample of the first tube after the painted tube. This sample will be inspected for OD, ID, and visual defects. Destructive tests will also be performed. During these tests, all tubing will be held on the output table. If the tests are acceptable, all tubing on the table will be accepted. If the tests are rejectable, tubing will be sequentially tested to determine when acceptable material was produced. The Mill Assistant "B" is responsible for getting the bad tubing into the scrap bunker
  • Keeps guards in place at all times.
  • Assumes various other duties at the direction of the Mill Operator or shift Supervisor/Department Manager.
  • Conscientiously works toward running a cleaner and safer operation.

  • Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate and able to work with programs such as Word, Excel, etc., and be able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, ERP system, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, and/ or walk, and/ or use arms and hands to load and unload material for extended period of time. Must be able to safely lift and load 50lbs. The employee must also be able to work outside in a variety of conditions. Candidates must be able to tolerate any climate, must be flexible with shift and hours.

We also offer a retention bonus of $1500 after one year of employment paid in three installments - $250 at 90 days, $250 at six months and $1000 at the one year anniversary.
