Location/Division Specific Information

Location: Lexington, Massachusetts, US Full-Time Internal/External

Shift Schedule/Hours: Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm, ½ hour lunch; occasional overtime.

How you will make an impact…


The Metrology Technician 2 will be responsible for supporting Thermo Fisher VVS facilities in Lexington, MA, with a scope encompassing calibration, building, and utility systems for GMP manufacturing, process development, quality control, and warehouse operations.

What you will do…

  • Support clinical and commercial drug manufacturing of gene therapy products.
  • Perform calibration activities on instruments throughout the facility.
  • Propose and implement modifications to improve operational performance and product quality.
  • Craft and maintain relationships with other Thermo Fisher VVS sites to develop and promote standard methodologies and ensure compliance with Thermo Fisher VVS standard operating procedures, safe work practices, and cGMP regulations.
  • The position involves close collaboration with Manufacturing, Facilities, Manufacturing Sciences, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Information Systems, Validation, Process Engineering and other teams to finish your responsibilities.

How you will get here…

  • High School Diploma with Three 3+ years of prior experience.
  • Associate of Applied Science degree with two 2+ years of prior experience
  • Equivalent Military training with one 1+ year of experience.


Key skills/desired experience

  • Experience with single-use manufacturing equipment is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; written and oral.
  • Documentation review and revision experience.
  • Strong ability to work independently as well as a member of a team working towards a common goal in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable handling multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Experience with operating systems and instruments through an HMI.
  • Experience with systems such as OSI PI, DCS.
  • Experience in documenting work in a validated CMMS.
  • Experience with P&ID loop tuning.
  • The ability to lift 60 pounds unassisted.
  • The ability to work frequently and for extended periods of time, in a clean room environment which requires various degrees of gowning.
  • The ability to read and comprehend instrument specific manufacturers manuals and perform calibrations related to pressure, level, temperature, speed and flow.
  • Must be fluent in English
