Job description
Our quickly growing Materials Testing client is currently seeking a Metallurgist for their lab operations in Cleveland OH. This is a company that has been in business for over 75 years and provides better quality service faster than many competitors in their industry. They are looking for someone who is hungry for an opportunity to grow with a well established company and has solid Metallurgy experience in a materials testing lab.

This job will have the following responsibilities:
Lab Activities:
  • Performs a variety of Metallurgical lab duties, ensuring the overall efficiency of the laboratory.
  • Performs routine metallographic analysis and related activities.
  • SEM analysis in performance of routine metallography and failure analysis.
  • Provides training on an as-needed basis.
  • Approval of test reports that include metallographic features not covered by acceptance standards.
  • Prepares technical reports utilizing established methods and techniques in Failure Analysis and Metallurgical reporting.
  • Maintain SOPs and makes method revisions and additions, as required, in coordination with Chief/Senior Metallurgist, Operations Director, Quality Manager and laboratory staff as appropriate.
  • Interface with LIMS for the entry and approval of metallurgical test data and reports.
Customer Service:
  • Provide general customer service to clients ensuring positive and proactive customer relations.
  • Serves as a technical liaison to our customers and responds to client calls of this nature.
  • Supplies technical information to sales department regarding capabilities and testing methods.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: Backup to Chief/Senior Metallurgist
Additional Activities:
  • Performs analyses in conjunction with metallurgical technicians and SEM Operation.
  • Approval of test reports that include metallographic features not covered by acceptance standards.
  • Onboarding and training incoming Metallurgical Technician.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • BS degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent work experience with a BS in a S.T.E.M. field.
  • 2-5 years of laboratory experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Must be familiar with all metallurgical lab equipment and testing procedures.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Commercial testing laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task.
  • Orientation to detail with the ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and projects.
  • Failure analysis and reverse engineering experience of metallic components from various industries.
