Job Summary:
The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Medical Supplies Coordinator Level I manage all activities related to patient care orders for durable medical equipment and medical supplies. The Coordinator is responsible for managing inventory, timely ordering, and delivery of DME/Medical supplies for different insurance providers, including Medicare and private insurance and effectively communicates with all parties involved.
Responsibilities:

  • Maintains adequate inventory of medical supplies in collaboration with clinical management.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medical supplies.
  • Assures timely and accurate processing of patient care orders related to Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and medical supplies.
  • Coordinates and arranges for all logistics associated with the delivery of DME and medical supplies for patients.
  • Manages car stock inventory for staff, in collaboration with clinical management.
  • Acts as a liaison between LORIAN, referral sources, vendors, and patients in ordering DME and medical supplies.
  • Works directly with referral sources to acquire the proper DME documentation.
  • Verifies patients' insurance eligibility for DME and medical supplies under Medicare and private insurance guidelines.
  • Maintains current knowledge of DME requirements.
  • Guides and educates patients, referral sources, and LORIAN employees about Medicare requirements for DME eligibility.
  • Researches and identifies new DME requirements and vendors, and distributes to Lorian employees as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with LORIAN, Medicare, Department of Health and/or Joint Commission, DME and medical supply requirements.
  • Assists with patient needs and concerns and involves clinical staff as needed.
  • Printing and distribution of Start of Care booklets on a routine basis
  • Serves as a resource person to employees and attends to pertinent continuing education programs.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned.
  • Answers incoming calls.

Qualifications:

  • High School education.
  • Fast learner in a fast paced environment.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in durable medical equipment and/or medical supplies for Medicare and private insurance patients.
  • One (1) year of experience in health care, home health preferred.
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment and medical supplies.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintains confidential patient information in accordance with privacy and security standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other applicable state laws.
  • Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to use a phone either by handset or by headset for long periods of time.
  • Ability to deal effectively with high levels of stress.
