Job description

The Medical Office Receptionist will provide front office support in a physician office setting.

In the execution of job duties, it is the universal expectation that all tasks are performed with a patient centered focus, while also seeking opportunities to continually improve core processes. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call. Reports to: Practice Manager

Essential Functions

Answers telephone promptly and courteously, takes accurate and complete messages, forwards or answers inquiries as appropriate. Schedules all patients according to policy and procedures.

Collects, verifies and performs insurance eligibility into the practice management system.
Collects co-payments or old balances and provides written receipts for all payment transactions.

Makes patient record available to physician or clinical staff, as needed. Prepares EMR for new patients to include all essential patient information. Verifies and updates existing patients annually.

Scans all patient information into appropriate area in practice management system.

Balances and closes cash drawer. Downloads appropriate documentation into designated files.

Ensures supplies, equipment, and work environment are kept clean, well stocked, and organized at all times.

Phones, electronically submits, or faxes prescriptions/ refills to pharmacies.


Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent Preferred X Required

Minimum Education
Associate’s degree X Preferred Required

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Work Experience
Required - 1 year work experience in a medical or dental office environment or equivalent healthcare experience.
Preferred - Previous experience working in a medical setting. HIPAA knowledge.
