Job Title: Medical Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer

Hours: M-Th or T-F, 7:30am-6pm, varies

Location: Round Mountain


POSITION SUMMARY:

Working under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer this position is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enforcing acceptable professional and ethical standards of the facilities medical staff according to its policies, procedures, philosophy, and performance objectives in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and Leadership Team. Assists the Chief Medical Officer in assuring that the facility meets all related local, state, federal, and accrediting-body rules and regulations. Assists the Leadership Team and Chief Medical Officer in coordinating and directing patient care in the facility according to adopted policies/procedures, state and federal regulations, and accepted accreditation standards. This position is budgeted for 3 days of patient care and 1 day of administrative time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned which may become essential to the position.


  • Provide direct health care services in a team based healthcare model to clinic patients within the scope of medical license and expertise in an integrated behavioral health/medical healthcare setting.
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer with the following tasks:
    • Compliance and Risk Management
      • Establish, review and maintain clinical policies and procedures which shall be reviewed at least annually
      • Contributes to the progress and development of the organizations compliance and risk management program
      • Works with the safety team to resolve observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance
      • Assist in the process of credentialing and privileging for medical staff
    • Quality Improvement
      • Works in coordination with the Quality Improvement and Clinical Teams to update clinical metrics and review data to improve the quality of clinical services provided.
      • Collaborates with Senior Leadership and program leads to operationalize patient services with an ongoing goal of improved efficiency, quality and patient experience.
      • Personnel management including developing and upholding clinician performance standards through performance reviews and the peer review process.
      • AD: Represents Hill Country Community Clinic at required meetings with affiliated agencies (i.e. CPCA, NACHC, HANC, Alliance Chicago)
    • Clinical Services
      • Oversee and ensure proper levels of clinical staffing at all Health Center locations. Is involved in the decisions about appropriate staffing structure with site leadership, works with clinical leadership and HR staff to post, review and interview candidates and allocate priorities in hiring.
      • Oversee appropriate clinical orientation to the Health Center for all new clinicians.
      • Work closely with information technology and electronic health record (EHR) teams to review and improve the functioning of the EHR clinical workflows.
      • Recruitment and retention of clinician workforce and development of the existing workforce.
      • Review and/or take action with patient misconduct issues, and significant clinical incidents and/or clinical complaints.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the supervision of clinical staff, including primary care physicians, medical specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistant clinicians, behavioral health providers, nursing director, medical residents, medical and nurse practitioner and physician assistant students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensed in the State of California without any limitations on license to practice in area of specialty. Five years of experience preferred. Experience working in a clinical non-profit environment preferred. Strong leadership skills preferred.


Certificates and Licenses:

Current clinical licensure in the State of California. Current CPR, ACLS Certification. Current CA drivers license.


Language Ability:

Must have highest level language skills. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, attorneys, judges, and/or boards of directors.


Math Ability:

Must have intermediate math skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rate, ratio, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability

Must have very high reasoning skills. Ability to independently assess medical conditions of patients and make decisions on treatment and follow up. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge basic working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet browsers. Must have working experience with medical management software such as Health Pro.


Equipment Skills:

Must have good working knowledge of standard medical equipment.
